My Dad, class of 1986, is insisting that he had a watch during plebe summer and that I should get one in order to survive my plebe summer. However, I swear I've heard from current mids and others that clocks of any kind are not allowed, and my watch will be confiscated. My Dad is very insistent, though, and keeps bringing it up every time we're anywhere selling watches.

So, are watches allowed? Should I get one?

ALSO. Do we keep our wallets on I-Day, or do they take them away with our cell phones etc.?

No Watches or Other Items

Per the Important Information for the Class of 2016 you received in your Permit to Report packet, page 10, "wrist watches and electrical grooming equipment will not be authorized for use over Plebe Summer, however, all Candidates are authorized to bring these items with them on I-Day, they will be stored for you over the summer in a secure location." It also list other things you may not bring with you, such as a clock radio. But you should get a watch anyway as you will be allowed to use a watch once the academic year begins.
Cheers...

Watch

DS got a nice durable sport watch for HS graduation from a friend who graduated USNA. It was a watch that he, as a Marine Infantry officer, had found to be rugged and dependable. He suggested, and we did, bring it to DS on PPW. During Plebe Summer I didn't get the impression he missed the watch. Once the Academic year started he wore it most of the time. If you take it with you it will be "kept" at least until PPW. If your parents aren't able to make it for PPW have them send it to you in a care package. Congratulations and best of luck.

Get a good cheap waterproof for the next four years. Sports Watch with 300 meters at Sports Authority is a good choice and cheap. You can get the Patek Phillipe later.
