Waterproofing Boots

This question may make me sound like a simpleton. Recently purchased some Garmont T8 boots, the instructions tell me to put some waterproofing material on it in order to extend the life of the boot. It also says it will discolor them. Should I follow the instructions or is it that important?

It doesn’t really matter. Personally I haven’t waterproofed my boots in fear of them keeping water IN if I happen to get them soaked, but have heard from others that it was absolutely worth waterproofing them.

I'm of a similar mentality. If your boots have a Gore-Tex type liner already, I haven't ever had the need to waterproof them and not have my feet stay relatively dry minus actively wading in a river. The ability for my feet to breathe when they get hot helps to prevent blisters and stay comfortable as well.

I don’t know. Maybe it will work? Seriously, don’t worry about it and the Garmonts are good boots.

c/o '23 here. If you're concerned about having waterproof boots as opposed to preserving your garmonts, the boots issued during beast are waterproof and even float. I used my issued boots during rock swim (survival swim for people who can't swim) and they worked like a charm. The garmonts tend to sink to the bottom of the pool whereas the issued ones don't. Might not be helpful or what you're looking for but I thought I'd chime in!
