Wave of appointments

First post here, though I've been lurking for months.

My son applied and received two congressional nominations (TX-25 Congressman Williams and Senator Ted Cruz). So far, we have not heard anything from the Academy. His portal still shows Candidate. He called his admissions counselor and was told that his packet is "still under review" and the counselor also said that Texas was a tough state. I'm trying not to read anything into that, but the fact that we haven't heard anything one way or the other is quite disappointing. The poor kid keeps refreshing his portal every couple of hours and jumps when the phone rings. Are there additional waves of appointments pending?

I'm currently working on a bachelor's degree at a medium name university (FIT),

I am in a similar boat, but different state (Maine). I've received two nominations as well, and still no word. Last time I received a rejection email early April, and I truly don't know if I should call my counselor to check or if that would send the wrong message. Best of luck to your son, and here's to hoping he gets some good news soon!

In the same boat here. Also, other schools are now coming calling. They say they really want him. Fish or cut bait is what my dad would say. Keeping the fish on the line is mean to the fish.

He's been admitted to Embry-Riddle and Texas A&M and has received scholarships for both. But his first choice is, and has been since he was about 8 years old, the USAFA.

Hang in there! Same boat here. Our kid applied to a single school - USAFA. Mom is freaking out, kid seems to be handling well. The whole plan was to apply next year if do not get in or do not get prep school. I am by no means an authority, but here is what I have gleaned thus far:

1) If you are still listed as "Candidate", you are still in the hunt;
2) Early decisions went out by 1/15;
3) Regular decision had its first big waive on 3/15. MOC's were contacted appx 3/12 and given a week to call their appointees if they wanted;
4) Portals were updated last Thursday to reflect all appointments made as of that day.

Said another way, there have only been two rounds so far, as best I can tell. Everyone who was not appointed thus far is being re-reviewed, ranked and still many appointments left. Portals update early AM each day, so no real benefit in checking every 15 minutes (but my wife still does). Admissions is working over the break, so keep checking emails and portals in the mornings and we should see appointments continuing now until 4/1, and still some tricking in after that.

Hi robofuzz, I am also from Texas. Still no word! If you don't mind me asking, where are you from? I know the feeling that your son is experiencing! Hang in there! My counselor said that everyone has been reviewed as of last friday, so I guess now we just have to wait a little longer.

We're in Marble Falls - west of Austin. It's the TX-25 congressional district.

Thanks for the info! Just wondering, where are you getting that information? No accusations, just lost of speculation on here ;)

As for my wife freaking out, I have direct, first hand knowledge on that topic. As for appointments: ALO ( who are the last ones to end out if their candidates make it btw); admissions office (prior explanation of process); current cadets my kid knows that went through process last year. Also, if you have not gone to it, there is a "2019 Appointment thread" - if you look at the appointees and comments listed there, it is consistent with the above.

I know it is frustrating -- however, think about most colleges -- they do not actually give you a date range, you just get the letter in the mail.

So, if we haven't heard by April 1st we're likely looking at a TWE?

Make sure you have your plan b school(s) lined up with deposits by their deadlines so you have a place to spend the next year moving forward with your education should you decide that you are going to reapply if you don't get in this year.

Maybe even a good idea for appointees to lock in a plan B (pay deposits, etc.) in case something happens this summer at BCT and you decide to come home, get hurt, etc. This was a piece of advice I read somewhere on this forum...and it sounds like a smart thing to do. Kind of like insurance :).
