We are waiting on NROTC first board results...are you?

Geez. DS has 4.0, 33 on the ACT, president of his NHS chapter, varsity athlete, etc., and applied early but didn't get a notification today. What's a guy gotta do?

Unfortunately, wait. There are more boards to come, many more. He is still in it, and you never know where the line was drawn, hang in there! I know it is really excruciating!!!

DS 2 submitted application mid July.
However, DS1 submitted early last year as well and did not get the scholarship til end of April last year.
Very similar records, just be patient(although we know much easier said than done) Good luck!

Just received an email and then checked the status.....DS2 received a 4 year NROTC scholarship to his first choice school (Notre Dame). Couldn't be happier and so excited.....now for the other challenge....actually getting accepted into that first choice school!
Awesome news! Is your oldest there, too? My DD is there and loves it. Has your son applied EA?

Congratulations to everyone who heard good news this first round! My son's portal still says "No decision has been made" so it looks like it's a no-go for him this round. We're not panicking yet though. He has a very strong packet and there are more boards to come. It just means a couple more weeks of waiting to find out about round two.

Thanks for that reassurance that it isn't "over" for us yet! I mean... I of course know that there are a lot more boards, but it makes me feel better to hear that folks that applied early were still being offered scholarships late in the process.

DS2 started his application the date the website opened. He had his application package complete, including interview by mid July so that he would be ready for the first board.

Had a different experience with DS1 in 2013. DS1 didn't apply until last week in December during senior year. The CO at our Naval Station rushed scheduling an interview because of timelines for offering ISR. DS1 received an ISR mid January, however he still had to wait for his application status to be updated to reflect the receipt of the scholarship and to which school the scholarship was assigned. That took awhile....he found out in mid March and it was to a 3rd choice school because he applied so late in the process. Fortunately he was able to request a transfer to first choice school since he was already admitted early action. The transfer process took awhile also and he were running against the timeframe in May to let your school know that you will be attending....had to get the Unit from the first choice school involved to expedite....but all went well.

With DS2 he is opposite....applied for NROTC early. He is not applying early action to his first choice school. Whereas he has a strong application, his ACT score is 2 points below DS1 who did apply early action. I'm not comfortable with that 2 point difference and I don't think he can improve the score above where it is now. He does have several leadership positions that DS1 did not have so I'm hoping those will offset the ACT score when looking at the total package. GPA and class rank solid so those are not concerns. Community service and extra curricular solid, so those are also not concerns....it's the ACT that is holding us back from early action.....
so until late March or early April, we will be sitting on pins and needles to see if he gets into first choice school and if not, we may be visiting our options to transfer the scholarship.

For those still waiting hang in there.....I know exactly how you feel....it's hard on your nerves waiting for a response....and in some cases like mine, it's only the first hurdle...so there's much more that needs to fall into place.

Yes - my oldest son is there, also NROTC 4 year. He will be commissioning in May....hoping for the Aviation community. However, if he doesn't get aviation...he said he's "either going up or down"...second choice is Subs....if he goes that route, he's looking at nuclear propulsion. He applied early action.....second son will not apply early action, so I'm in for the waiting game to see if he gets admitted regular decision, otherwise, he will have to look at transferring his scholarship.

otherwise, he will have to look at transferring his scholarship.

For what it's worth, in our experience transferring the ROTC scholarship wasn't a problem. 2 yrs ago DD received a NROTC scholarship. She accepted the scholarship and requested a transfer to another school, which was approved. Then she received an appt to USNA and accepted that and declined the NROTC scholarship. Last year DS received a NROTC MO scholarship to his #1 school, but didn't get accepted to the school. He put in a request to transfer to the #2 school and it was approved.

Could anyone provide insight into when NROTC nurse option applicants are notified? Is it correct that there are only two boards for nursing applicants?

Found this for Nursing NROTC.
Navy Option boards should start in September but I cannot confirm if they have. It takes 2-3 weeks to get the results out. Marine Option boards meet in November and (I think) Feb. Nursing Option boards meet twice but I don't know when. I would not be surprised if it's same general dates as Marine Option boards.

Is ND his top choice? If so I would have your DS reach out to his Admissions officer and let him/her know about that NROTC and that ND is his first choice to see if they would recommend, EA. Our DD had the same ACT as your DS2, applied EA since she knew she was not going to improve her file and then alerted her admissions rep about being awarded the NROTC Scholarship there. She was accepted EA. The former PNS said that based upon their relationship with the university, if there are 2 similar applicants, the school will give the admissions nod to the NROTC scholarship winner and being an early winner can influence admissions.

Pretty proud, my daughter received her email this week for Purdue. Please read the whole email as it says that she can actually attend ANY school that has a ROTC or satellite program if she chooses. Please make sure you follow ALL the guidance pointed out in the emails. PARENTS-- We cannot communicate with the program on this. It is up to our kids to do this task. Attention to detail is the name of the game from here on out.

On a side note, my daughter also applied for the Naval Academy and the Air Force Academy, so good luck to all you who are waiting on those results to!
