Web guy

Can someone please give me their opinions on joining web guy? What are the advantages ? To me, the price seems crazy !
You have an incoming cadet? YES. Worth every penny to see our DS making his journey through BCT. They capture so much of those first few weeks, Jack's Valley, etc. and they work really hard to capture every cadet. It's also part of the larger parenting organization and we wanted to support that. Others understand the details of the membership better than I, but even if it was just for the photos - we would do it again in a heart beat.

My parents are hesitant due to the price. $432 per year seems like a high price for some pictures? Right?

I subscribe as well, that said they have a little monopoly going and they take advantage of it.

I was skeptical and rather condescending about it at first. Watched my kid walk down the ramp at Prep, came home and promptly subscribed. Five years later- one of the best decisions I made. We have several hundred photos of his time at USAFA that are excellent quality and give a peek into Cadet life. Definitely worth it and I have (hopefully) been working on not being so condescending.

Compare it to what they might pay for tuition, room, board, etc. in the coming years, plus they will not see you very much at all, presumably. You will not have the time, patience or energy to accurately describe everything going on in your life to them. The pictures will fill in those blanks and forge a bridge of understanding as your life path forks away from theirs.

Join!

You also get discount at the AOG shop, the magazine, and a few other nices to have.

I have tons of pictures of my DD throughout her 2 years, not just BCT.
But for BCT alone - about 40 good pictures, excluding awesome outtake photos.
Now multiply that by 1200 Cadets.
They do an amazing job.
Pull off the band aid, join without another thought, pay in full, save $243, us that plus the 15% discount at the AOG shop for all things USAFA dad, mom, grandparent, 2026, etc during I-Day, online, PW.

Webguy is totally worth it but it comes with the caveat that as parents you will lose hours and hours of your life during BCT searching for glimpses of your cadet. Lol! Seriously though the pictures are worth it as are the updates from webguy of what your cadets are up too.

Sshhh.. don't ruin the surprise 🤣

Parent of a 24er here.... Webguy is most valuable during BCT. You will get a ton of pictures during basic and it will be your lifeline to your basic cadet. For that alone, it was worth it. After basic, it is still fantastic, though not as constant. I've gotten incredible pictures of my DS during jump, soaring, and powered flight! I've also gotten pictures of my DS during AFT and PFT several times. I got pictures from recognition, the exemplar dinner and parades. I anticipate getting pictures from the ring dance at the end of this year. None of these pictures would be possible without Webguy. Finally, with a membership, you do get a discount at the AOG store. When you drop off your basic cadet next week, you will drop a fortune purchasing all kinds of USAFA swag right after, and the discount is certainly nice.

Thank you . I can already tell this is really a great “family “ which is so appreciated as my youngest is leaving the nest to report on Thursday . I’m so proud but still a bit sad for my own selfish reasons of the anticipation of missing him.
I’m sure all parents have felt this .
Nice chatting with all of you .

We bought our oldest son a lifetime membership in the AOG during his doolie year. That included Webguy. The cost was totally refundable if he left USAFA before graduation for any reason. That was 15 years ago and I am not sure they offer the same deal now. If they do, that is the way to go.

Here's the info for membership:

Now it seems all graduates are automatically members once they graduate and there is a family plan for current families.
Membership is not automatic but it is free now. The grad still has to elect to become a member. Free AOG membership is new as of last year. I paid for my AOG membership back in the day but am glad that is a thing of the past.

I think Webguy is a fantastic program and a great way to involve parents in their cadet's journey. We're letting them go but that doesn't mean we don't want to see what they are doing. Others have stated the other benefits besides pics and you are also donating to cadet programs as well.

Here's my take on Web Guy. We had a 2018 grad and at the time we paid $20.18 per month for access to Web Guy. I'm not sure if the AOG called it the "Family Plan" and the lifetime membership in the AOG at that time. Shortly after the Doolie year we thought we would stop paying the monthly fee and then restart Web Guy at the end of his junior year since there probably would not be too many pictures of him during most of his second and third year. When we tried to restart the Web Guy, the AOG folks said that we would have to pay for all the months we did not pay in order to restart our account with Web Guy. Needless to say we were very disappointed in this policy.

The Web Guy pictures that we found of our cadet and his friends are invaluable and we're grateful for Web Guy being able to get these shots.

Fast forward to this year. We have an incoming 2026 grad. We have decided to pay for Web Guy in it's entirety to save us a couple hundred dollars over the four years. We're looking forward to spending the countless hours searching for pictures of our son and his friends (aka Where's Waldo). HaHa.
