Webguy and beyond

So, I'm obviously on an "Support the AOG" rampage! If you want to know what the AOG does for cadets, here's a short list:

Here is the AOG link. https://www.usafa.org/AboutUs
Notice the main page has Association of Graduates &Endowment. Same ‘company’ two hats.

The Association of Graduates (AOG)
· Supports Cadets in whatever activity requested by the Cadet Wing.
· Inprocessing and WebGuy Pictures.
· Class Rings
  • AOG helps with design, ordering and warranties.
  • AOG accepts delivery of all 1000 class rings,
  • The AOG coordinates with squadrons for pick-up and makes sure the correct rings are at the cadets’ tables.
  • All through their senior year the AOG will return rings to Jostens for repair, resizing, refinishing, etc. All free through the AOG’s contract with Jostens.
· Wall Crest for Class Wall on chapel.
  • The AOG bids the contract to create the Wall Crest.
  • Currently the cost for a wall crest is $7500.
  • The crest is delivered in May and they work with the base contractors to install the new crest during the Graduation Parade.

· Honor, ethics, leadership seminars, briefings, etc. are financed by the AOG
· Doolittle Hall events are hosted by the AOG.
· Polaris Hall was built with graduate donated monies. Mostly the Class of 1969.
· The 50-year Legacy Class program is coordinated through the AOG
· The Ring Dining Out and 100s Night
  • Sets up meetings with venders for ALL glassware
  • Coordinates with the cadet committees to let the cadets select who they want to work with.
  • All glassware is delivered to the AOG because they are tax exempt and can store items until the event evening.
  • 2018 ordered $30,000 worth of glasses and flasks. Colorado Springs sales tax is 8.25%. That saved them almost $2500.
· Graduation Announcements: The AOG contracts with CB Announcements

The Endowment is the fundraising half of the AOG.
They don’t contact cadets for fundraising; they contact graduates and the community who might donate back to the Academy.
The endowment provides
· Cadet immersion programs (semester abroad, etc.)
· Summer internships

First let me caveat -- I do NOT work for the AOG. My husband ('83) and daughter ('18) are lifetime members. Honestly have to say that the reunions, networking, etc are completely worth it.

I have a friend whose son is in the class of 2021. I was asked about Webguy and memberships, so I did a little research since things change every year.

The AOG is currently running a special for lifetime membership for $700 (normally $850 and it goes up further after graduation).

If you do the $36/month for 4 years that's $1728

So buy the lifetime membership for your cadet. That gives him/her all the benefits including full access to Webguy. Now ask your cadet for the username/password before I-day.

I've been informed that the person I spoke with at the AOG was incorrect when telling me that "Webguy" was included. It is NOT included in this pricing.

Oh well, I guess we all make mistakes. :)

Really, I thought it was last year.

DH, '79 grad, paid about $700 or so last year for DD's lifetime, he already had one. Included access to Webguy.

Maybe the Webguy membership was tied to his AOG membership

Weeellll ... there seems to be a bit of confusion at the AOG regarding this (I think you're right that it is a thing, though). Waiting on final confirmation but didn't want to mislead people in the meantime. The person at the AOG who told me about this is currently on vacation. The membership person is saying it isn't a thing.

So, until I hear FINAL word -- hold off for a few days. :)
