Does anyone know if/where I can view the webguy photos from BCT without joining the AOG? I would love to join, and someday, I will, but its $180 price tag is a little too far outside of my budget just now. But, I really want to see the pics from BCT too. Any suggestions without pirating or stealing them from another site?

Thanks!

Web Guy

From what I understand Web Guy will post "some" info you can view without paying......but to take full access to his videos and all of his pictures they are requiring you to join the AOG for $180.

Myself and many of our new parents aren't in a financial position to pay that kind of money right now either.

I called and emailed the AOG and registered my complaint.

I hope they will reconsider this decision and provide full BCT "coverage" for all parents.

I never thought of complaining to the AOG. That is a great idea. I think I will do just that, today. I might even have considered $100, maybe, but $180 is pushing it (hey, it's 3 tanks of gas for me!).

Web Guy

Go can go to http://www.usafawebguy.com/ and there is a option to contact the AOG......you can send an email there.

You can call 719.472.0300 and ask to speak to Raz (a female who is Web Guy's Assistant, I think). That's who I was directed to when I called.

Don't know that it'll do any good but it can't hurt. I know quite a few people are upset and I also know quite a few people that are dishing out the money because they can't stand to NOT see what's there for the $.

 At first the $180 seemed steep but after I thought about it, this is my feelings....

A very nice family just yesterday picked my daughter up from the Colorado Springs airport (FOR FREE) and housed her over night--FOR FREE. This family gave her invaluable information because they are former USAFA grads. They took her to dinner, took her to a movie, provided her a safe, nurturing place to sleep, took her to breakfast this morning, and gave her a tour of the USAFA grounds before delivering her safely to Doolittle hall (to shortly there after be screamed at on a bus...) I don't know how I will ever be able to thank them properly.

This was all arranged by the AOG--did I mention it's all FREE? For parents who could not make the cross country jaunt to bring their Basic to I-day, or who could not afford to fly the entire family out for just a few minutes of hugging on I-day, or for Basics that wanted to go it alone, this is a wonderful service provided by the AOG.

So today, because I braved the $180 (which is only $45 bucks for the next four years--to me no different than joining the PTA at our local schools) I had access to WebGuy's beautiful account of the day. I would rather eat macaroni for the next month than complain about such a small fee. Not to mention that I'm sure there's no salary that goes along with standing out in the swealtering sun taking photos of strangers.

There are many other AOG perks and you'll have this for the entire 4 yrs with the one time fee.

Priceless if you ask me.

Sorry, I have no idea why that posted twice....I guess it was worth repeating.. heh heh...

Just wanted to add that I have looked at 100's of photos already on WebGuy's site and I haven't seen my Basic even one single time!

I still stand firm that my money was very well spent.:thumb:

I just sold off a two old bikes, two unused dressers, 10 future (October) pumpkins from my garden and our kiddie-sized swing set and paid the membership out of that. Now I have a few less pumpkins (why would I need them anyway? :shake:), but I have room in the garage for a new bike and I can plow under the old swing set and plant some late pumpkins, and hope for a warm fall!

Still haven't seen my twins yet. Dying to see them!

Join my club fencersmom!.....the "Bought the Insider but still haven't seen my Kid Club"!!...:frown: Oh well, I had a blast today following webguy and I almost feel like I was there.

My D's B&B host is supposed to email some pics later--another priceless gesture from our AOG.

And just think, now you get a discount at the Academy gift shop!

I hope you see your twins tomorrow.

Ahhh, one day down.....

Hang in there, New Moms! If you ever come across a picture of your child you're heart will jump out of your chest.....not to mention the screams you'll let out. :)

I want to clarify why I am a little upset with the AOG.....I know there is no amount of money that is too much to get a glimpse of your Basics right now and for the next 6 weeks.

Web Guys services have been free for the last few years. In 05/06 the AOG did what they did this year and charged for access to all the AOG photos, not just Web Guy. The next two years they provided access to all AOG/WebGuy features to all parents. I've been around a long time and was just disappointed and upset that they've reverted back to "charging".

That being said.........have fun looking at pictures. There were days/nights when I ironed in the computer room, ate on a TV tray in the computer room, folded laundry there too........anything to be close to keep checking for more information and pictures.

I did find 3 pictures of my son.........boy was I happy. Until I later sent them to him and he informed me it wasn't him. :) Hey, I still kept them cause they sure looked like him to me.

Remember how many Basics are there......1400+. Sometimes WebGuy tends to take lots of pictures in one spot. I used to be in the "he must have fallen off the side of the road and no one noticed" club.

It's going to get a little tougher after today.........they all will be dressed the same! Do ya'll know what squads your Basics are in? If so, you could get a pretty good idea of what color lanyards they'll be wearing and be able to watch for the squad letter on the flags each squad carry when they're marching.

Twins Mom! I can't imagine sending off 2.

Bless you all. Hang in there and happy hunting.

AOG /WebGuy / and BCT hints from a mom

I have to add my two cents on the AOG and WebGuy. AMAZING. FANTASTIC. Aside from the obvious other benefits of AOG membership (Bed & Breakfast etc...) I could never have gotten past last summer but for WebGuy. I was one of the lucky parents. I am almost embarrassed at how many photo's I found of my D (so I won't tell) but suffice it to say, it was great. I spent an enormous amount of time looking for her. But, even on days I did not find her I knew what she had been doing. . . I was able to write to her and ask about things. . . I sent multiple choice questions with self addressed envelopes. I asked her "what courses in BCT 2 have you already completed" & gave a list - on the list was Airmanship Day - when the letter returned, she circled what she had done and put a big "what's that" by Airmanship day. Next letter - "I know what Airmanship Day is now, thanks!" WebGuy gave me a window into my D even when I didn't see my D. Sending multiple choice questions was GREAT! She loved it & it took her seconds to answer & her friends all got a kick out of it (I always asked fun questions too (what wild animals have you seen? a) bear b) eagle c) snake d) Cadre I kept all her responses & put them in her Doolie year scrap book (which will be a Christmas gift for her come December).

By the way - to get a good view of your child in those photo's you may find the following of assistance:

http://customsolutionsofmaryland.50megs.com/

if it doesn't pop up, go down the list to "computer glasses". It magnifies whatever is on your screen so you can tell if the kid in the photo has the mole in the correct place to be your child! Fluke of nature, there was another Basic in her squad with a mole on the opposite side of her face from my D - now that made it difficult!

I joined AOG for the four years and I have already saved enough on discounts at the store to almost make up for cost of membership. Although I always say I don't need another AFA t-shirt, cookbook, scrapbook or anything else, I still make a purchase (several) every single time that I am at AFA so bring your AOG membership card and take advantage of the savings! I will certainly break even when I am there for PW!

Incidentally, USNA has a similar thing to WebGuy except it is a membership only page and cost around $35 or $40 a year but only covers the first summer - I don't think they do things like Recognition etc...

While I am thinking back - I also sent her a deck of cards, one card at a time in another letter. I gave friends and family some of the deck and everyone wrote on the number face of the card an inspirational note and we mailed them one by one. By the middle of BCT-2 she had a whole deck of cards and was playing WAR in the tent when Cadre wasn't looking. Cadre never caught her with her cards. She kept them very well hidden during BCT but loves that she had them & loves even more that she was never caught with them! A good story. I also sent her a post card with a joke or inspirational note on it everyday. She kept a good one in her pocket every day and when someone around her looked down (or she was feeling glum) she pulled the joke of the day out of her pocket & read it or handed it to someone else to read . . . Her roommates tell me how much those jokes & messages helped them... So - send lots of letters to your Basics & be somewhat creative - they will write you & tell you to stop or leave them in the mail box when they collect their mail if they don't want them ...
