West Point appointment chances

Good afternoon! I am currently a senior applying for West Point who is 2Q'd; I am awaiting my waiver to be a fully qualified candidate. I have done all my AMI's so all I have to do is sit and wait patiently for a waiver or appointment. I was just wondering how my appointment chances are effected for the duration it takes to be granted a waiver.

Are my chances of an appointment greatly hindered with the extended time it takes for me to receive a medial waiver?
Does the West Point admissions team even open my file before I receive my waiver?
Are the chances of an appointment solid if you receive a waiver?

Thank you in advance for the help

It would seem that more than half of all appointments have already been given out- with the last given out between now and a few weeks. Do you have LOA/ principle nom? How long ago did you submit your wavier?

If West Point requests a waiver on your behalf and you are eventually granted one, that means they reviewed your file and found you to be a strong candidate in all other aspects. Essentially, they are saying your medical disqualification is a risk they are willing to take in potentially accepting you. I was recently in the same situation as you.

oh no. That's not something I thought about. My dodmerb medical exam is on march 10th although they did say I was 2Q'd. Is it over for me? How low is my chance now?

Wait, are you applying for 2027. I may of assumed you were applying for 2026 (if so, apologies). Are you waiting for a waiver- or do you still have a full DODmerb to do? it is really late to be doing a DODmerb exam- I didn't know that it is even possible at this point.

Have you been in contact with your RC about this waiver?

Do not make yourself crazy with these thoughts. You will know by 1 May. You submitted your best packet. You are literally Schrodinger's Candidate. Either you will get the BFE or you won't. NOT getting the waiver will be a final conclusion but otherwise, there is no way to game it.
You applied to other schools and to ROTC, right? Make a plan that you like and then await the USMA news...whenever it arrives.

I have done my DOD examination. (2026) I got DQ'd and already did my AMI's. West Point has requested a waiver on my behalf. All I am doing now is waiting for a response. The wait is killing me right now haha

I do not have an LOA or Principle nomination. West Point requested a waiver on my behalf on January 10th, I am currently awaiting the results.

Also, where did you hear that more than half of the appointments were already given out. Could you provide me a source so I can look into it? I personally could not find any reliable information on the timing of appointments.

I’ve been waiting for the annual appearance of Schrödinger’s Candidate. Or not.
🧐🤔

No doubt you have it tagged in some thoughtful & technically challenging way...But yes, they each do their best and will learn over the next 8-10 weeks.

Have you reach out to @MullenLE directly to get insight into your personal situation with DODMERB and provide any possible support to DODMERB in the decision making process for your waiver? That is the one thing you might do, if you have not already done it.
Otherwise, no LOA, no principle nom, it does not indicate whether you will get in or not. You are just waiting...but you won't hear anything until after your waiver process is completed.

It's mainly just basing it off who has claimed appointment on the thread this year to previous years. The list last year ended with 183 entry's, and right now we are at 110. It could be slightly more or slightly less or slightly more.

Mr.Mullen confirmed all I needed to do was wait for the moment. I was just wondering if my appointment chances are diminished for the duration it takes for me to receive a medical waiver.

There is no evidence of direct correlation of self-reported appointments here on SAF to what the actual flow rate is out of any of the SAs. Typically, by cycle end, about 10% of a class self-reports here - but you cannot say with any certainty what percentage has been given out by today, based on jelly-like extrapolation.

It should not be assumed or speculated “more than half the appointments are given out,” with no factual basis. That is a disservice to applicants who are waiting.

This is a data sliver, and it could be argued people who self-report here are the forward-leaning types, parents and candidates, who are out there searching for information and submitting well-researched packages, thus skewing the data.

The only conclusion that can be drawn is appointments are flowing, and spurts of them can be inferred from reported dates.

Speculation based off years of data is verboten. Understood.

I think what the good Capt is saying is that the candidates that are active on SAF and get appointments are probably more likely to get in early/LOA types. If that is the case, the # of appointments posted here might be very high early in the process compared to the general population of appointments.

Waivers take time. The waiver recommending authority has a day job of treating patients. He's so dedicated, he's communicating with me at nights and on weekends. "Patience is a virtue." :wiggle:

Yes, that is indeed the point that has been made here on SAF many times about appointment lists over the years.

We have no way of knowing if what we see posted is proportionate to what has been offered and not posted. We don’t know when the first appointment was actually offered and how many were already out there - or not- before the first was posted here. We don’t know if the posting rate we see on an appointment thread mirrors what is actually happening, or if it is running ahead or behind in a race. Speaking of a race, a good analogy is this is a marathon being run in the dark, and we can’t see the racers - but some racers turn on a flashlight and point it at themselves to indicate they have an appointment, so those we can see, but still can’t count the bodies that may be running ahead, alongside or behind them. Or, if they are running solo with no one around then, or in a cluster of 5, 10, 20 or 100. Because we simply cannot see, we can only guess how many racers surround our spotlit ones.

The only two things we know for sure is at end of cycle, the final number posted has been running about 10%+ of eventual class size, and appointments are apparently flowing.

Perfect explanation IMO!! Great job!!
