I was just curious if anyone knows if all new cadets (class of 2021 get a certain barracks?) Or is there any way to ascertain which barracks they will be in from their newly assigned PO boxes for their addresses? (I know we will find out in a few weeks at R day but just curious how that works)

No, of course not all new cadets are in the same barracks. That would be a frenzy.

that's a good point, I'm just not familiar with how large the barracks are and how many they accommodate, etc

There are 9 barracks which includes the newest one, Davis. There are 4 regiments (1-4), with 9 companies (A-I) per regiment. Each academic company (ie A4, D1, B2) is in the same barracks, and multiple companies within each regiment may be in the same barracks, or different ones.

Your new cadet will be in a Beast company, and then scramble to an Academic company during Reorgy. Their PO box # has nothing to do with the barracks, but they will keep the same PO Box # all four years. If you go to A-Day, Plebe Parent Weekend, Parent Weekend or Graduation, you can go inside their barracks.

Each cadet class scrambles at some point, usually from Beast to Plebe year, and then again sometime during their 4 years. Class of 2018 scrambled after Beast, again after Plebe year (or was it Yuk?) and again after Cow year. I've lost track. My Firstie will be in his 3rd or 4th barracks starting in August.

    Barracks[edit]
    • Scott Barracks: Named after General Winfield Scott and built in 1938, it was home to cadets from the Fourth Regiment. It closed in Fall 2013 for extensive renovations and reopened for the 2014-15 academic year, maintaining its distinct "division" style layout.
    • Lee Barracks: Home to cadets from the First Regiment, it was built in 1962, and is named after General Robert E. Lee, it also houses the cadet barber shop in its basement.
    • Sherman Barracks: Also home to cadets from First Regiment, it is named after General William Tecumseh Sherman and also built in 1962.
    • Grant Barracks: Formerly called "Old South Barracks", this building is named after General Ulysses S. Grant. The east side of these barracks is connected to Grant Hall, the former Cadet Mess Hall built in 1852 and used to feed the Corps of Cadets until 1923.[29] The barracks portion, built in 1931, is the oldest cadet barracks still in use, and is home to cadets from the 1st Regiment.[30]
    • Bradley Barracks: Built in 1968, Bradley barracks is home to cadets of the Second Regiment and is named after General of the Army Omar Bradley.
    • Eisenhower Barracks: Also built in 1968, houses cadets from Third Regiment and Cadet Brigade Staff. The barracks is named after General of the Army and former president Dwight D. Eisenhower.
    • Pershing Barracks: Formerly the West Academic Building built in 1895, it was renovated in 1959 and renamed Pershing Barracks. The building is named after General of the Armies John J. Pershing and houses cadets from the Third Regiment and Cadet Regimental Staff.
    • MacArthur Barracks: Opened in 1972, it houses cadets from the Third and Fourth Regiments and is named after General of the Army Douglas MacArthur.
    • Davis Barracks: Scheduled for Completion in December 2016 and occupancy in 2017, the new facility will house 650 cadets. The barracks is named in honor of General Benjamin O. Davis Jr..

Barracks are more like college dorm buildings than what may traditionally be thought of as army barracks. Rooms are designed for either 2 or 3 people, but nowadays they often put three in a two person room and four in a three.

There is no scramble after CBT. Whatever company you are in over summer will be the same during the academic year.

Wasn't the case for 2018. You're a 2021 cadet candidate, right? Things change every year. Where'd you get your info?

Both a 2019 and 2020 cadet, one of whom is a cadre for first detail.

Like I said, things change every year. There is a new Commandant starting so expect some changes that current cadets aren't even aware of yet. My Firstie is also cadre for Beast -- I'm sure I'll hear about what's different this year from his experience in the summer of 2014. Good luck rwjohnson416!

I heard that during construction, more cadets than usual were sent to the other SA's for a semester (or the year?). 3-4 to a room, that sounds tight.

They do scramble after beast. And barracks likely change. My son is 2020 and changed barracks during reorgy week, as did most.

Every new cadet will receive a warm, personalized greeting into a new academic year company. :director::eek2:

CBT companies and academic year companies are totally different entities. The 8 CBT companies consist of approximately 160 new cadets each and a small number of cadre from all different academic year companies. The 36 academic year companies will have about 35 plebes each.

It is theoretically possible to put new cadets into 36 platoons that would be assigned as a group to an academic year company, but that would be unprecedented and highly unlikely.

I understand it has been different in previous years. However, I've heard from multiple people that there will be no scramble after CBT.

It is changing this year. 2021 will not scramble after Beast. We will remain in the same companies until firstie year and scramble then

How can they not scramble after beast? The beast companies are not normal companies. They are almost all plebes. Doesn't make sense.

Best guess is the plebes in each company will just matriculate into their respective companies with the upperclassmen.

This summer is different than in past years. For example, your CC may be assigned "C company" for beast. His/her squad leader will be someone from either C-1,2,3, or 4. After beast, the entire squad will go to that company along w/ the squad leader. They will live during the academic year in whichever barrack is assigned to that company. During CBT, they will be in one of the 2 barracks that is being utilized for beast. This info is from my DS, who is CBT 1 cadre.

So most companies will have absolutely NO plebes during the academic year? And those companies with plebes will be primarily plebes? A disproportionate low percentage of upperclassmen in the companies that have plebes? Team Leaders will come from other companies?

This sounds like an April fool's joke.
