West Point Barracks/addresses for new cadet candidates

Brovol, did you read my comment? I thought it was clear...I'll try again. Rising cow alpha is a squad leader. She is in C-1 in the academic year. She is assigned C company for beast. She has 8 in her beast squad. All 8 will go to C-1 with her during reorganization. Rising cow bravo is a squad leader. He is in C-2 in the academic year. He is assigned C company for beast. He has 8 in his beast squad. All 8 will go to C-2 with him during reorganization week. (and so on...). These plebes may/may not be in the cow's AY squad. Likely a few may, but that will be switched up somewhat.

Oh, that makes a bit more sense. Folks were saying that plebes would not be scrambling after beast, which if true would have meant that the entire company of plebes would all stay together as a company during the academic year. They also said they will remain in the same barracks. These comments, I trust then, are not true. Do you agree?

I can see having CC's stay with their beast squad leaders. That makes some sense. But what, are there ten squads at least in each beast company? So each squad will be assigned to a separate academic year company after beast? No issue there.

So cadre for CBT2 will be from the same company as cadre for CBT1 for each beast squad? Isn't part of the process getting new cadets out of their comfort zone? ;) I can hear my Firstie now ... the Corps has....:D

One thing parents on this forum should know....things change at USMA. From the admissions process through graduation the best we can do is offer insight knowing there are really no absolutes. We do our best to be helpful to those going through the process for the first time but the only true experts are cadets (and things change for them consistently) and the staff at USMA... :)

There is a lot of information here that seems to be confusing as we talk about the organization.

If it works as it did in the past, each platoon stays together to go to the associated new academic company. That is around 30-35 New cadets.

So 1st Platoon, Alpha Company CBT goes to Company A-1 in the Academic year. The leadership of the platoon will also be the same as the academic company.

Things do change each year but I am not sure I have ever heard about scrambling after Beast.

This summer is different than in past years. For example, your CC may be assigned "C company" for beast. His/her squad leader will be someone from either C-1,2,3, or 4. After beast, the entire squad will go to that company along w/ the squad leader. They will live during the academic year in whichever barrack is assigned to that company. During CBT, they will be in one of the 2 barracks that is being utilized for beast. This info is from my DS, who is CBT 1 cadre.
That is quite new, but workable. It is a scramble, but by squad, not individual. All who are familiar with USMA know that C-1, C-2, C-3, and C-4 are separate entities with very different personalities (C-1 will never scream "Go Cowboys...").

It will be interesting to see how this works. One of the reasons for scrambles, especially after plebe year is to give cadets a fresh start in a more normal environment. Another is to prevent companies from developing insular personalities that can result in a vastly different experience depending on whether one is assigned to A-1 or I-4, etc.

I can say absolutely the incoming plebe class will know whether or not they scramble sometime after beast and it will have zero to no impact on their academic year lol.

I just asked mine and their are just as many rumors between the new cadets than they are on the forum. JWP is right, they will know in about 7 weeks and while I will not say it will have zero impact, they will be just fine.

Regardless, the CC's will scramble after Beast. Sounds like they may stay with their squad mates, but they will be assigned to an academic year company, which will be different than their Beast company, and most will be in a different barracks. Things certainly change, but this doesnt sound like as big a change as what some might have suggested. It's not a bad idea to have plebes stay with the same squad leadership after beast. Probably some pro's and con's. Sounds like the CC's will likely know what academic company they will be in after beast. I bet there will be a lot of adjustments though.

From Deb Dalton today on the 2021 Facebook Parent's Page:

NEW INFORMATION FOR CLASS OF 2021:
The company & platoon assigned for CBT will translate into their company assignment for the academic year. I will post this again in a new thread closer to R Day as a reminder.
This is a change from previous years.
We don't change a lot, but we do tweak things

In the Army, just like in real life, you have to learn how to work with a variety of personalities. Scrambling will allow for that.
Quick story - the rising firsties are scrambling. There was a bit of gnashing of teeth when it was announced. (This has not been done in the recent past.) But initial reports after CLDT (upperclass summer training) are positive as it gave a chance to meet/work with other classmates.
Everything for a reason - adapt and grow.

During my DS's overnight this year, he met a plebe who was in the "experimental squad" in the Class of 2020 that didn't change from CBT to the Academic Year. Apparently, the experiment went well and now they are using this methodology on the Class of 2021.

I am not sure how experimental this process really is. It was the standard way they did it through the 80s and 90s. You stayed with your Beast platoon into the academic year.

Interesting.

Well, it's not the title I gave it. That's how the plebe described it, and I guess in his eyes, it was experimental.
