To add a little bit more, there are two hurdles to going to medical school after graduation: getting into a medical school and getting selected through the West Point selection process to be allowed to go to medical school. One acceptance is not good without the other.
There was a case a few years ago where a Cadet was not selected by West Point for medical school. He then presented them with a fait accompli when he was accepted by a highly regarded program. The board reconsidered and unrejected him. An outlier for sure.
