Does West Point offer an early admissions option other than the rolling admissions thing? Also would it be a bad sign if I have not received and LOA yet?

Thanks

Here is what USMA says about early admissions at http://www.askadmissions.net/usma/aeresults.aspx?Quser=LOA&submit=Ask

We recommend you open a file at West Point during the spring of your junior year. The bulk of the application process takes place in the fall of your senior year. West Point does not have Early Action, but does have a rolling admissions process. It is best to apply early (Aug/Sep) to give yourself time to complete required tests and evaluations and to complete the admissions packet.

Most prospective candidates do not receive LOAs. Continue to make your application package as strong as possible.

Seriously, don't worry about an LOA. You want an appointment.
Did you attend SLS? Is your application complete?
If you have questions about the quality of your application contact your regional admissions officer.
If you can then schedule a candidate day visit - one benefit is that an admissions officer will review your file with you and tell you how to make it stronger.
If you want an appointment - show them the love!

I would not be able to get up to West until mid October, so I am thinking that I should get my admissions packet in ASAP. I have finished everything in my admissions packet besides the essays which I am almost done with and the CFA which does not take long.

October is a perfect time to visit USMA....the campus is beautiful in the fall and the weather is great. Play your cards right and you might get to catch a football game! If you are VERY, VERY lucky, you will get to attend a swim/dive meet while there!

how bout April for the orienteering National Inter-Scholastic Championships? that's when im going.

i think it's basically an orienteering national competition held annually at USMA. don't know why they call it that.

unless the sheet is outdated, i got a paper from the GA academy day talking about them having Early action and how to do it. they probably don't have early decision is what they mean.

What does the paper say?

Allow me to clarify "Early Action" and "Early Decision" -
Some colleges have "Early Action" and "Early Decision" admissions policies. For Early Action, if you get your application done by a certain date you will be guaranteed of a response by an early date. For instance, if you get your application done by Nov1, then you will be notified by Dec 15th and won't have to wait with all the "Regular" applications. Early Action is generally not binding and you will have until May 1 to make your decision.
For Early Decision, you would apply by an early date and be bound to accept the offer if given.

West Point offers neither of these scenarios. There is "sort of " a rolling admission process. As early as July/August some candidates who have provided enough information may be made an offer. This is called an LOA or Letter of Assurance. It is an early offer that states if all the conditions are met and appointment is guaranteed.
West Point does this for very highly qualified applicants to compete with civilian schools that offer early action or early decision.

Most cadets do not get into West Point with an LOA. Most will wait until the Congressional Nominations come through and receive their appointment by winning their congressional district or from the national waiting list.

West Point does encourage candidate to complete their application as soon as they can - this does not mean that every applicant will receive an "early" answer. Some will wait until late spring.

you know what...that paper may be outdated because from what i found by researching is that there was an early action plan but now there no longer is. and i just realized the date on the paper was 2002. so i guess they don't.
