I have always been interested in ghost stories, and since West Point is such an old academy, I was wondering if there was some really compelling ghost stories at the academy. I would also be interested in ghost stories of similar military schools like the VMI or the Citadel. I haven't been able to find much stuff online for some reason. I'm not saying I'm some weird paranormal fanatic, I don't even believe in ghosts but I've always enjoyed listening to these kinds of stories. I know this kind of diverges from the kind of posts on this forum but any information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Just Google "West Point ghost stories." Plenty of articles show up.

You got pershing barracks, used to be some sort of hospital or medical facility. I remember hearing some things about ghost sightings or weird things when I was there

Yeah I like ghost stories too. And scary horror movies. All that stuff.

But they (ghosts & goblins & things that go bump in the night) don't exist - at all.

I had a Jewish co-worker once. He visited Auschwitz in the 1990s. Where the Nazis murdered 1,000,000 innocent people in about 3 years. No ghosts there. Zip. No stories & myths & whatever. Just silence. Death is death.

If there's no ghosts at Auschwitz, there's no ghosts anywhere.

Pershing has a sealed off room that's supposed to be haunted. Pretty morbid story why that links back to it being the old post hospital and a series of apparent suicides for cadets over the years living in that particular room that led it to being sealed off rather than have cadets in it. The room is legitimately walled off and can only be reached from the window into it.

Molly is a friendly ghost to supposedly live in the Supe's Quarters.

Steam tunnels have all kinds of weird haunting stories.

Weird stuff happens, especially in super old buildings that have a lot of history. That doesn't mean they're haunted or ghost exist. They do make fun stories to scare plebes though.

Yes, Molly is ever present in Quarters 100 and she is just lovely. Ages ago I went on a tour of Quarters 100 where we went down to the basement to check out the haunted areas. There are many small rooms down there where the household staff was quartered and they had their own kitchen for preparing their own meals. There is a bed that is always rumpled, no matter how many times someone straightens out the quilt. And the wooden cutting board in the kitchen is always damp, even with a dehumidifier running. It was fun, even though it is most likely just a great bunch of stories.

The steam tunnels! I have never been but know people go there to do nefarious things, especially huffing Glade back when huffing Glade was a thing! That might make you see ghosts down there.

Not a school but I was stationed at Ft McPherson (Now Tyler Perry studios) in Atlanta. As an MP we also had to do security duties at Ft Gilliam. This was all areas of battle during the Civil War and obviously Sherman's march on Atlanta. There is a large hill going down to main gate by the soccer field that there is a ghostly lady that goes alongside the car looking in. (I have seen mist there that could be perceived as something gliding alongside your car so that one I would say has a scientific debunk) Then there is a small out building that was being used in the 80s when I was there as a garden shed at night you could see multiple light orbs floating around. I did see the orbs and we did have our headlights off to try to make sure it was dark. Glass windows cold create an allusion of orbs and have different colors depending on if it has waves or even air bubbles in the glass. Although to us it felt like there was no light that could be reflecting in a city there could have been a light source we didn't realize so might be able to debunk it but in person that was some CRAZY stuff to see. There were blue lights that danced over a lake on post it was pretty but also easy to debunk as light reflection on mist rising from the lake. Now the one that there is no debunking for me cause this was the scariest thing I have ever heard in my life! We were back behind the FEMA trailers that used to be there for disasters and they are stored on the open area that was hand to hand sabers going battle. We were parked behind some trailers it was maybe 1am and out of no whear it started sounding like people were running back and forth in the trailers all around us and metal strikeing metal sounds no voices just we were expecting to find the other driving patrol and walking patrol trying to mess with us but even just 4 people would have been hard to make that amount of 'running' noise none of the trailers we checked had anyone and you still heard the 'running in the trailer the other driving patrol showed up with the noise still happening and they were visibly freaked out by the sound and after about 20 mins it just stopped. We would have alarms go off in AAFES warehouses that were not being used with no reason for them to have gone off but those kinds of things can be debunked as animals or technical issue. But that running 30years later I can't think of a way to debunk it.

Jackson Memorial Hall at VMI ( JM Hall is the Cadet Chapel) was supposed to be haunted by the Cadets in the mural of the Charge at New Market. When you were in Guard duty one of the post taps checks you were supposed to make was of the doors to JM Hall and if they were unlocked you had to walk down to the stage. Lit only by a flashlight - I'm pretty sure that I saw a couple of those guys grimacing more than they do in the daylight- and if you were quiet you might have heard them screaming in the distance ?!http://burnpit.us/sites/burnpit/files/battle_newmarket05.jpg

Sorry to be late to this thread, but I have a great one about VMI. Like bruno said, the ghosts of the cadets killed at New Market haunt the chapel. If you're convicted of an honor code violation and are drummed out of the Corps (kicked out), it's said that if you walk up to the painting in JM Hall, salute it, and face about, the ghosts of the cadets will be watching you from the upper balcony.

So glad we did not get to visit the inside of JM Hall when we toured VMI with DS a few years back. [emoji102] [emoji33] [emoji15]
