West Point Overnight Visit

My twin sons are going to visit West Point for overnight visits. Due to scheduling conflicts, we will not be able to go with them. They are 18 and well traveled so that's not an issue. I am wondering the best way to get them from Newark to WP. Newark is the cheapest flight, but Stewart isn't much more. Can anyone give me info on reliable ground transportation from either Newark or Stewart to WP.? Also, since they will be arriving in the evening the night before the visit, is the Thayer Hotel the most convenient for that purpose?

You can also look at White Plains which is a little south of West Point. I hear the cadets talk about Taxis all the time and I would bet that the increase airfare to the smaller airports would be offset by the cost of a taxi.

Thayer is the closest but depending on what they charge, the hotels in Highland Falls are just another mile or so away from the gate.

I would have him take an Uber to his hotel. The drive from Newark is just about 45 minutes so it isn't bad!
The Thayer is expensive, I stayed in the Army hotels five star inn and it was perfectly fine for the occasion since we were on the campus most of the time.

Lyft is cheaper from Newark generally...our current cadet takes it often, roughly $80 last month. Army five star is fine & close walk to admissions, Thayer is further walk to admissions building. The last taxi he took from Newark charged him $140. White Plains is a great little airport option, roughly same fee for Uber/Lyft

Great ideas, thank you all very much. Lyft/Uber did not occur to me. We are sort of rural. I am going to have them plan and book the trip but wanted some ideas in my pocket. Again, thank you.

Weigh the difference in cost between Newark and Stewart once you add in ground transportation to West Point, because if Stewart is close cost wise that is the easiest airport to fly into for that area. Small and easily accessible. I agree with others that Thayer (and the cost of it) is not necessary as there are other hotels in Highland Falls that are a reasonable distance to gate (and transportation available to get from them).
