I was recently pursuing an application at USMA however ran into some setbacks but want to apply for class of 2029 next year. Just wanted to share my story and see if anyone had any recommendations on pursuing the school or any other options.

About a year ago today I started really noticing west point as a school to attend being a junior in high school. Then, I joined the wrestling team as 97% of admits play a varsity sport. Before, I was a captain of marching band although did not enjoy it. I loved sports but broke multiple bones and got frequently injured playing as a kid. However I had been going to the gym a lot and was able to make varsity on wrestling joining before senior year.

Going into the Summer I became a captain in my congresswoman’s internship program. Main purpose for this was to get the nomination of course however actually learned a lot about politics. In addition I was accepted to and went to SLE at west point. However doing the CFA at SLE I failed the mile time despite leading my group in pushups and being advanced in other categories. When I got back home I dedicated myself to finishing the application. Soon after training for the CFA, I pulled a muscle in my lower back on barbell squat. I had a muscle lumbar or spasms and was barely able to walk for about a month.

In August a captain in admissions of west point called me to redo my interview as it did not go well during SLE. Doing so, he offered me a Letter of Assurance.

When wrestling season was starting, I strained another muscle in my rhomboid area of my back. A month after that I badly hyperextended my elbow wrestling tearing a lot of soft tissue. At this point it was late in the year, I received my nomination and completed basically every part of my west point application but my physical and the CFA. I was about to do my CFA finally but during League finals of wrestling, I made it to semi finals where I hurt my knee which i just found out more than 3 months later was a tear in my meniscus of my right knee and possible need surgery.

This put an end to my application for class of 2028 however I still am determined to attend West Point. Like I mentioned, any tips for reapplying be very appreciated. Thank you.

No advice on reapplying, but maybe consider doing sessions with an experienced trainer, as all these injuries seem unusual for a young, athletic person. Maybe you need to learn proper body mechanics with lifting, training, etc... Health comes first, so get that under control before anything else. Best of luck.

Maybe you should just give up. With all of these injuries the chances of you surviving there are slim to none. Some people are just NOT BUILT for it.🤷‍♂️

Are you disabled in some way or have any specific physical issues? I've never heard of someone getting as many injuries as you have and at this rate, you might be crippled and a paraplegic by 25. It would've probably been better if you didn't do wrestling or focused on training healthily and properly so that you'd be physically fit. Also, you may not have gotten in because you weren't determined enough to fix your mile time which anyone could likely do unless they're overweight or don't have enough time to train.

Work on getting healthy and healing. Then stay healthy. I think there is a 6 month waiting period after meniscus surgery, so if it's needed get it done soon. If you got an LOA this year, you have a good chance on re-application.
