West Point SLE 2021

My DD just got correspondence letter this morning and we thought it was for SLE but is was a noncommittal candidate letter from admissions. Anyone else received this yet or is this standard procedure? My DD went through this process 4 years ago but the details are vague.

Mere2033--DS did receive this noncommittal letter at the beginning of April. From my understanding, it means you are competitive and to keep progressing forward!

Ok well that's a good sign. My DD submitted only PSAT scores and they were low. We've had 6 SAT test dates cancelled here in California and the April ACT was just cancelled. We may have to travel to another state. Hope they don't cancel June.

I got my SLE acceptance email this morning. However, I haven't received the second email with the hyperlink that was supposed to be sent around 1:00 PM EST. Should I wait until tomorrow or send them an email regarding my conflict today? Thank you!

Try checking your spam email. My DS found the second email with the link in his spam.

My son has not received an acceptance yet for SLE or Navy. Is it same to assume he will not be accepted? I understand we will hear either way by the end of April. Trying to hold out hope but i'm guessing the chances are low at this point. He has a decent SAT score of 1300 and lots of leadership awards and experience (Eagle Scout, etc...). I am guessing since he is not interested in pursuing a Math, Engineering or Science degree it has really hindered his chances of getting in. He is looking to get more into law and government. If he does not get into SLE then he will not apply to West Point. Since he still would love to serve his country he wants to explore ROTC. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Good luck everyone!

My son is in the exact position! Same interests too - law and government. He has not heard from SLE either. It never occurred to me that his lack of interest in math, science and engineering could hurt. Ugh! Still holding out hope!

If your son is interested in law, he can always pursue ROTC, request and educational delay upon graduation from undergrad and go to law school. Then he could apply to serve in the JAG Corps. Or he can commission as a 2LT and later apply for the Funded Legal Education program as a 1LT and the Army (or Navy) will pay for him to go to law school. Alternatively, he can serve in the Military Police Corps.
Also, selection to SLE is not a prerequisite to receiving an appointment to USMA. Bottom line is that the military has something for everyone who is interested in serving.

I am in the exact same boat...I have an interest in law and government and also have not received an acceptance for SLE. I would say if he is truly interested in applying to WP, do not just give up because of SLE. It is always a good idea to look into ROTC options as well, that is my plan b if I do not get into a SA. At this point I am assuming I am not getting into SLE, but you never know so I am not going to count myself out just yet. best of luck!

This sentence makes absolutely no sense to me. If you poke around the boards here, you will see that SLE is mostly an outreach program that WP uses to bring the academy to the forefront in the minds of certain individuals who may not have considered it as an option beforehand. The slots for SLE are limited, so they simply cannot take everyone who applies. Not being chosen for SLE is in no way an indicator that WP is not interested in that candidate becoming a cadet. SLE as a rising senior is not the competition. The actual competition begins each fall, with an application to the academy. I've been around for a while and I don't understand the great importance that people now seem to place on SA summer programs. Yes, they are fabulous introductions to the academies if you've never set foot there before. But in the end, it's just a summer program. Acceptance or denial for these programs does not indicate whether or not the academy wants you. In fact, they were originally created so people could check out the SAs and decide if academy life is for them.

He also applied to Navy and hasn't heard back from them yet either. I wonder if others in the past received acceptances late in the

I am not sure if my theory is correct but I do know that my sons two friends from school got into SLE right away and both plan on pursuing (science/medical/engineering routes).

Well the issue is he has zero idea if a military college experience would be right for him so he was really hoping to try SLE to get a sense of what it would be like.

Thank you Tropic Justice for this information. As a family we are new to all of this and trying to learn as much as we can.
