am looking to get a cake topper for DS's graduation. When people speak to him at USAFA, will he be referred as anything other than plebe, dirt, doolie , less than a human? LOL. I guess what I am asking is does he have a "rank " day one?

And for some inter-branch rivalry, I will remind my DS often that regardless of rank, he will be a member of the Ch-Air Force.

A chair cake-topper would probably not be a top choice!

Perhaps a Falcon or the USAFA crest? If you Google “USAFA cake topper,” all kinds of stuff comes up.

Squids... what can I tell ya? That one does look tasteful and appropriate.

Planning my DS's sendoff party, I'm sure his uncle and a couple of my buddies will enjoy a custom cake-topper fashioned thusly.

Before Basic, he is a Cadet Candidate. Day one of basic, he is a Basic Cadet. After A-Day, he is an Unrecognized 4th Class Cadet or Cadet 4th Class. Then after recognition, he is a Cadet 4th Class.

And a random note, it is spelled "doolie" ;)
Autocorrect isn't in the military. She switched it, but thanks for the helpful correction.

My DS was never referred to as Plebe, just Doolie or 4-dig.

Now at the end of the year he tells me that they say you are a Doolie until you have eyes on a Basic from the next class so there is some effort that goes into seeing the Basics as soon as possible to shed the moniker.

For those interested, it's "DOOLIE. "Legend" has it that it was an ancient Greek word for slave.

And as for the "Chairforce" topper...please remind those folks that think that's appropriate that the "Chair" is made by Collins Aerospace, it's called the ACES 5...here are some examples...

My DS is 2024 at USMMA and he said the upperclassmen told him that "You're a Plebe until you see a Plebe" so that is the same anyway. He is still enjoying being recognized and the "rates" that come with it though.
