What are my chances (sorry for posting one of these)

Car ramrod, it sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders, so here is an honest take on your situation.

You may very well get appointed. No one knows. Sometimes the decisions of the board make us wonder. I personally know an eagle scout, NHS, private pilots license, top10%, SAT of 720 math 700 reading, etc. That did not get an offer.

Your ECAS could be your saving grace. The problem with them though, is that in a class of 30, varsity letters and even the position of Captain are much easier to obtain, than say, in my graduating class of 562. The academies know this.

Class rank is important, and a high class rank in a big pond trumps the same from a tiny rural school. Still, Congressional allotments are super important. If your scores meet the required level, and you are otherwise academy qualified, & medically (all together known as 3Q), you have a chance.

The academies have a way of finding great candidates. Hopefully it will be you.

Car ramrod - Did you look at any other service academies? SAT scores are really important, but so are the classes you're taking and the overall candidate that you appear to be with your extra curricular activities. Many, many highly qualified candidates with high SATs, sports, etc. fail to get in, while others with lower SATs, but who are recruited athletes do. If you don't get in this year, try again next year. Also shoot for the other service academies. Good luck!

Sorry for the late reply, I believe I am 3Q'd but I have not had any admissions person tell me so, nor have I inquired. I know of kids who also seemed like they were what the model Mid should be and they did not get in, they ended up enlisting and going to Seals. Being optimistic I look at not having gotten a TWE yet and my portal still saying application complete is good news because they haven't rejected me. Thank you for the honest insight!

swrakow- I have nominations to USAFA and USMA, I have also applied to both. My school is small so some classes just are not an option for me due to not being offered, if I am rejected I will most likely be applying next year to all three again.

I was at the BGO interview with my son. My son has 2 boys' all-state, many awards, and a 33 ACT. Captain, president, etc., etc. He ran a 5:30 mile on the CFA. He is even on the cover of the magazine published by our state government education. (I know everyone else has the same resume...)

The BGO said that his resume is okay, but he really needed to be "the best of the best" since he is a WHITE MALE. He said that this would be good enough back when he went to school but that white males pretty much need to walk on water now.

I'm not saying if this is true or not-- just letting you know the BGO told us that white males are at a significant disadvantage.

We are still "complete pending review" with three nominations--two senator, one representative-- to USNA.

Car_ramrod hang in their....I have a good feeling about you. You will know either way soon enough.
No one here can predict what the board does. Best of luck.

1690 on the old SAT? I thought 1600 was the max on the "old" one? At least it was when I applied. My SAT was only 1180 on the old 1600 max one, but I was fortunate to be offered NAPS. I made it through USNA and served 5 years. My brother was similar and they offered him NAPS as well. He is now an 0-6 on his last tour. SATs aren't the only indicator of success. Some of us aren't the best at test taking, but you better have everything else zipped up and it looks like you do. Good luck!

Thank you for your reply. It was music to my ears as my daughter is desperately hoping for a NAPS appointment and has the same SATs you referenced. :)

That's not a negative reply. That is an honest answer. If you wanted a sugar coated response you should have said so and I would have sent you some smiley faces.

Your math and CR scores are the most important. Even if you had a 600, 600, and a writing score of 490 you'd be a longshot.

Curious though, your BGO told you that you didn't get into NASS because of a conflict with Boys State? That doesn't make sense to me.

How many are in your senior class? What's your class rank? You have lots of positives, but it will take a lot of luck for a white male, fresh out of high school (as in no prep school, or enlisted, etc) with your test scores to be admitted.
:) :) :) :) :)

Kinda snarky, I am sure he meant "Negative" in the "No-Go" sense, not that you had a negative tone.
