Hello,

I am going to be a HS Senior when the school session starts in August. I have scored 1440 in SAT (710 and 740) and have an unweighted GPA of 3.3. I am planning to retake SAT to improve my scores further. I have taken 13 AP courses till now. I won the AP Award in 2017. I am the school soccer team's defense captain and we made it to the semi finals of the Region this year and stood 7 of 30 in the League. I am also a 3rd Degree Black belt and a certified instructor. I am doing martial arts for past 11 years now. I have been volunteering since 2016 at a local museum. I can speak, read and write in 4 languages including Mandarin. What are my chances to get in the academy and getting a nomination? I am attending the summer seminar this year. I will also attend the USCGA - AIM program in July. My order of preference are - Air Force, West Point, Naval Academy.

I also need some assistance for preparing for nominations - has anyone gone through the process recently?

Thank you.
DG

Start here:

Then look up your local congressional and senatorial (2 of 'em) website and find their page on nominations. Most congressional districts have a staffer who is in charge of holding an "Academy night" and set up interviews in the Fall. Get to know this person.

Here is an example:

Thank you so much for the links.

Do you think I have sufficient scores and credentials to secure a nomination or do I need to do anything more?

Hi DG,
Recommendations are to take the ACT also. Submit the highest. Try to raise your unweighted GPA, if you have time. Concentrate on your math and science classes being the most difficult. Cut back on the classes that aren't as important. Sorry, history isn't as important as math to the AFA.
I think you are on the right track. You have sports, volunteer time, and language is a plus. Now the rest really depends on the area of the country you live. Competition is fierce to get into the AFA in Colorado, but not as much in Miami.
Next, contact your AFA liaison in your area. They will help you with your interviews.
Good luck!!

Thank you so much. I will enroll for ACT, my first attempt was 26 and I read it needs to be over 30. I am from Arizona.

I think your SAT are adequate, but still recommend you try to raise them and take ACT. ACT used to be preferred, and you might test better. I think your GPA is below the average of the 2018 graduating class. BUT, the AFA looks at the whole person when reviewing your application. Also recommend you apply for more than one service academy. http://www.usafa.af.mil/News/Articl...-breakdown-the-stats-on-usafas-class-of-2018/ http://www.usafa.af.mil/News/Articl...-breakdown-the-stats-on-usafas-class-of-2018/

The level of competition within your district is also a determining factor. This often varies by year. Some districts within California, Texas, etc are known for always being super competitive. Arizona might be a different story however! Do you know what district you reside in within AZ? What MOC represents your district?

I think candidates have had less (depending on AFA need), but it should be over 30, if you want to give yourself a better chance of acceptance. I recommend a tutor. Tutors can really help you learn how to study and take the exams. Right now, I think the AFA is 11% acceptance. You should think about the Coast Guard/Merchant Marine also.

Yes I have been selected for the AIM this year too, after my USAFA Seminar, I will be going to USCGA in July. I think with my final results the scores will be around 3.5 of 4.0, unweighted. I am hoping of getting a 4 in AP-Biology and Calculus BC. I already have a 4 in Calculus AB, Chemistry, Economics - Micro and Macro from last year.
