I'm enlisted and plan on going to the academy.

I am 19, so I have time. I am studying for the ACT, and will take it as many times as needed until I get a 30 or better.

I haven't took trigonometry or pre calc is this gonna be a issue?

In high school I took physical science,biology,zoology/botany and geology. Which means I haven't took chemistry or physics. Do I need to catch up in these two subjects? Is clepping enough?

If I have to take trig,pre-calc,Chem and physics I can. I have plenty of time.

Any advice would be much appreciated

FYI. You don't have PLENTY OF TIME. The academy only selects once a year. Obviously, from the way you're speaking, you didn't apply THIS YEAR. That means you'll be 20 years old if you apply next year. By the time the results come out, and assuming you get selected, by the time you go to the PREP SCHOOL, (Which is where almost all of Enlisted Go PRIOR to the academy), you could be 21 years old. Assuming you don't get selected the first time you apply next year, you'll only have one more try after that. Because you can't reach your 23rd birthday before July first of the year you begin the academy. Being enlisted, you'll probably have to attend the prep school first; which means you can't reach your 22nd birthday before July 1st of when you enter the prep school. So basically, you'll have 2 tries at it.

I'll let other prior enlisted address your academics. Personally, "What are my chances" are useless. If you want to attend, then apply. "Planning on attending" doesn't exist. You want it????? Apply. If you need assistance, contact your commander and your education office. (They are part of the process anyway; might as well talk to them). You need you're commander's permission/endorsement/recommendation. Start there. Just pointing out, you DON'T have plenty of time. You're going to lay your head down; wake up; and you'll find yourself 2 years later.

First off, thank you for the reply. You are absolutely right if I have to attend the prep school, then I will only have 2 attempts. If not and I can go directly in I have 3.

Honestly my friend, and I'm not trying to be harsh, but you need to clean up your grammar in a big way. I won't go through the editorial with your post, and I understand that it is just internet dialog, but it reflects some obvious shortcomings. English and writing or composition are important skills to have at the academies. At a minimum I would brush up, and have someone review what you submit.

If you don't have trig/pre-calc, chemistry or physics, then going direct entry would be VERY painful. I suggest finding a night class at a community college or applying for the prep school which has classes in those four areas specifically.

Please don't hesitate to PM me if you have any questions about being prior enlisted at the Academy. (You may need a few more posts to unlock the personal message feature of this forum)

brovol and Christcorp always give good advice.

If you want an honest assessment here, clean up the grammar (I haven't took... ). And, we can hardly give you any more comment than "go for it" without any information. Of course, you will never go to USAFA if you do not apply, but we can tell you where your weaknesses are (from our perspectives), where you may have a hook, what needs obvious work (grammar comes to mind, and perhaps, writing skills).

Don't mean to be harsh, but please, take a long look at other posts here. Lots of "chance me" posts, and other posts which may apply to direct admission, and many many posts regarding prep school.

Remember also; the RARE FEW ENLISTED that get to skip the prep-school, and go straight to the academy, usually do so because obviously their age would prevent them from attending the academy if they went to the prep school first. But also, because they've been enrolled CURRENTLY and is actively taking college classes. So, if you're 20-22 years old, is currently enrolled in CCAF, actively taking 1,2,3 classes per semester, and doing well. THEN, the admissions board might see their way to letting you go directly to the academy and not doing the prep school.

What many don't realize is; the PREP SCHOOL was designed PRIMARILY FOR the Enlisted applicants. To get them back into the academic mode required of a university. Most enlisted have been out of school for 3-4 years by the time they get an appointment to the academy. Going from no school/academics for 3 years to, "Hey, you're at a top-10 university in the country", is a kick in the nuts. Hence, the reason for the PREP SCHOOL. So don't even consider going straight to the academy. It's rare, and generally not the preferred method. So think of yourself as having only 2 tries at this.

True. I just finished my Took my EOC so I am able to attend the TA briefing then start classes. Wright -State is within a mile of the base. However I am a cop (security forces so my schedule on a weekly-basis is not predictable. We are working 6/3s and 8 hour shifts.

But as of now the ACT is my main focus, and then I can take after or maybe during a college algebra and trig class.

I would still love to go to the prep school. Anything to get into the USAFA

Good luck man! I am currently going through the application process, and I will say that it is pretty extensive--you can PM me if you have any specific questions. I'm also a 19 y/o FTA.

Thank you! Good luck to you too. Are you enlisted also?

Cool cool. I'm at wright-Patterson. I'll pm you later after my shift.

I am stationed at Wright-Patt, while I don't know too much about the enlisted/LEAD application process, I do know a bit about life at USAFA/what it was like for the prior/preppies. Let me know if you have any questions or need any help (prepping for the ACT or otherwise). Good luck!

Awesome, thank you. Any extra help I can get I'll take.
If you'd like to meet that's cool, we can meet at the USO for coffee or whatever.

Should you still need help in studying for either SAT/ACT and money is tight for what ever reason, check out http://jrotccollegeprep.com/ You dont need to be in jrotc to use it. The unit at my college puts this out for people that want to apply for SA/ROTC and need to get their scores up. Good luck and NEVER STOP TRYING TO ACHIEVE YOUR DREAMS!
