I am a Senior in High School with:
GPA: 3.67 (95.04)
Boy Scouts: Eagle Scout, Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Webmaster.
Boys State
USMA SLE
National Honors Society
Beta Club
AFJROTC
I made a 5 on my AP Euro exam, a 4 on my AP US, a 4 on my AP Language and am currently taking AP Calculus and AP Microeconomics
I've taken the SAT four times with an 1180 as my highest score, I took another on December 7th. The last practice exam I took on Khan Academy I made a 1250.
I've taken the ACT once and made a 25
I had a congressional nomination interview with my congressman last Saturday.
It looked like there were about 15 people being interviewed.

What are my chances of getting the nomination and subsequently getting into West Point? Also do I need a nomination to get into USMA Prep School?

Thanks

My guess is most that respond will tell you your standardized test scores are low. Your coursework and mastery of it along with the leadership seems very good.

No one knows your chances. If your 25 is the highest in your district you may skate right in. Statistically speaking a couple hundred cadet candidates with a 25 will get in. More is always better though. If your math is extremely low you might get disqualified which would make prep school a possibility.

Test scores are very low. Excellent leadership activities. You do not mention athletics or CFA. At face value those academic numbers look like a top civilian Prep School candidate . Of course there are many factors we cannot possibly be aware of. Keep working at it, anything is possible. Good Luck.

Nom is not needed for USMA Prep School.

Absolutely incorrect. A nomination is needed.

You do not directly apply to attend USMAPS. You must apply to USMA by completing a Pre-Candidate Questionnaire and by obtaining a nomination, normally from a United States Congressman or Senator. Your admission to USMAPS is determined as part of the USMA Admissions process. Go to the USMA Admission’s webpage for more information.

Congrats on earning your Eagle, that helps tremendously in terms of leadership experience and community service.

Your stats are almost identical to another candidate we know, that ended up being offered a chance to go to USMAPS.

If you are sure this is the path that you want to follow, it's not a bad deal at all to spend an additional year at prep school.

Good luck.

This is very interesting with regard to the statement about USMAPS requiring a nom in hand to be offered MAPS. I am always learning something new with regard to noms, especially divergent practices among the SAs.

At USNA’s NAPS, the NAPSters are required to apply for all noms for which they are eligible for the NEXT cycle (say, Class of 2025), same as any other candidate for USNA.

As I understand it, they do not require a nom in hand for the current cycle (Class of 2024) to be offered NAPS. Let’s say we have a candidate strong in many areas except for a specific academic weakness. The elected officials’ review panels see this, and does not include the candidate on the slate. The candidate is not a player for VP nom, and doesn’t have any other eligible nom sources. USNA Admissions really loves the candidate for other things they bring to the table, and decides to offer NAPS or a USNA Foundation prep scholarship, to polish up that weakness and prepare a candidate for success at USNA. During the coming year, the NAPSter or prepster goes through the application process again, to include applying for noms for which eligible. If the candidate is again unsuccessful at obtaining a nom for Class of 2025, and has successfully completed NAPS or Foundation prep, Admissions will find a nom for them, possibly from the Superintendent’s discretionary authority.

Live and learn!

My DS has almost the same stats as you so fingers crossed for you both!!
Eagle served in all leadership roles
boys state elected state assemblyman (ran for party secretary as well)
boeing company engineering summer internship
3.67 weighted gpa and 5 on the US world history (only ap history and ap English classes)
32 on ACT
academic decathlon team captain competed at state twice
almost a black belt in Hapkido (test is this Spring)
received nomination from CA 33rd
letter of rec from a retired 2 star general who he has been fortunate to have had as a mentor for five years
CFA score is on the weaker side though

We are hoping for at least sponsored prep...which I hear is awesome and actually quite beneficial. He will self prep at MMI if he needs to. Good luck everyone!
