I can't speak to the specifics of your district as even competitive districts vary but in the district where I do Congressional interviews, I would expect to see multiple USMA candidates with good sports, leadership and 1400 or so scores. Here, I'd be looking hard at your SATs and GPA as I usually see better numbers from multiple candidates. As an interviewer, I'd hope to hear some amazing things that you DID in those captaincies to help balance the lower score/GPA.

Generally, when I see 3 sport captain, 11 letters, etc, it is Track. Are your times close enough for the USMA coaches to take notice of you?

Thank you for the tip regarding how I have used my captaincies. I have in fact used these positions to impact both my school and community (i.e., organized fundraising drive, worked with youth programs). I am in fact a recruited athlete though I am not exactly sure how this plays into the selection process.

I do think I can raise my SAT to the mid-1300s. My GPA is a function of a less than stellar sophomore year. I definitely "came into my own" in my junior year (4.5 GPA, two academic awards) and my senior courses reflect a serious student (3 AP courses, 2 honors courses). Would you say that the trajectory of my grades will help? My candidate statements support this transformation as well.

A recent grad from USMA. If I'm not mistaken, you have a sort of different selection process if you are a recruited athlete. If you contact the coach who is recruiting you, I'm pretty sure the coach can tell you whether or not you are getting accepted.

If you really care about your profile, I'd say try to raise that SAT score and get those push-ups a little higher. GPA won't change that much this late into your high school year. Keep this in mind and try to get a strong start with plebe year because if you have low grades after plebe year, it will be sort of the catch up game later down your cadet career.

Yes, the trajectory of your grades will help along with the explanation of how it happened.

Make sure you understand that their are different levels of recruited athletes and each sport and coach handles it different. The Football team has a wider sphere of influence than the track team on how they can help. If you are being recruited by other comparable programs you may have a leg up in the admission process but unless you are a strong D1 level recruit and the track coach has openings in your specialty, your best bet is through the normal process.
