Hello community, I was wondering what are the chances for a RISK candidate to be accepted to USMAPS or USMA in general?

To be honest (as a former USMA admissions officer and current Field Force Officer) chances are very low for USMA. If the candidate is a recruited athlete then USMAPS might be in the cards. My recommendation would be for the Risk candidate to attend college for a year and take a SA-like freshman curriculum and then reapply.

What kind of test scores make a candidate at RISK for USMA?

USMA Admissions uses the Whole Candidate Score (WCS) to determine whether a CC is Risk, Competitive or Admissible. SAT scores in the 1300s will normally put you in the “Admissible” category (however, this alone in no way or form guarantees admission as many other factors are considered to determine the WCS). Competitive cadidates are normally in the 1200-1299 range and anything under 1200 is Risk. I would like to emphasize that your math SAT score is more important than the verbal score. For example, all things equal a CC with a 700 Math and 600 Verbal would have a better chance of gaining entry than a CC with a 600 Math and 700 Verbal. I hope this helps.

How does a candidate know if they are "at risk" for academics or CFA?

From the one of the sticky threads on the USMA forum:

- risk level: SAT - below 560 on Math or Verbal; ACT - about a 22 composite

Not sure how old this is though

I know that when my son applied to USMA, he receive a "no risk" notification after his CFA. No notification for DD so far.

How did your DS get notified of “no risk”?

It is a very high level evaluation and admissions and the field force have access to this information but generally it is not shared with the candidates. It is a preliminary ranking that helps prioritize the workload for the team. If you are classified as risk, you may not get a second step kit and FFRs will generally not look to schedule an interview.
