Good Morning everyone,

I am a reapplicant to USAFA, first-year college student, and an AFROTC C/4C. The waiting can be nerve-racking, so to get an idea, what do you think my chances of acceptance will be? The following below is what my application shows

High School: Graduated 3/39, 4.26 cumulative gpa, came out with 45 college credits through a gen-Ed college program

high school extracurriculars:
- World Youth Science and Engineering 2 time state competitor for Biology
- 4 year varsity XC running and track, XC senior team Capt
- 3 year drama club actor and fine arts
- Eagle Scout
- 2019 Illinois Premier Boys State Delegate
- peer jury youth juror
- faith youth-group leader and altar boy (dunno if that’s irrelavant)
- other factors are volunteer service hours
- societies include HS national honor society, NSHSS, community college honor society

Obtained Congressman nomination

First-year college:
- Current 4.0 gpa and deans list student
- Currently hold 60 credits
- Honor’s Program
- I’ve just (literally this week) been given a job for campus security, but I’m going to ask my ALO if it’s too late to inform the admissions team about that

AFROTC:
- Lead Recruiter for my School
- titled AS100 of the fall semester
- scored 94.9 on fall semester FA

CFA:
Basketball throw: 62 ft max
Pull-ups: 18
Shuttle-run: 8.5 seconds
Sit-ups: 90
Push-ups: 75
1-mile run: 5:49

work experience:
- Public works summer job in High School
- Walmart Fresh CAP 2 associate summer and winter breaks, started last year during COVID
- As said before, now I’m campus security

The only thing nerve-racking is my standardized test scores because I know it’s not too hot. I’ve taken the ACT 5 times and the best I can make is a 25. I’ve taken the SAT for the first time last semester, but managed an 1150. I don’t know why I can’t do well on it, but that’s my misfortune. I’ve tried the study textbook, but I’ve never done well with it. Also tried prep-classes, but then COVID came knocking.

I pray that since it’s a holistic review that the other aspects may be enough to get an appointment, but I know those standard scores will affect me. I just wonder if it’s bad enough to disregard me.

At the end of the day, I remember the advice I’ve heard from my ALO and Det CC and I try to take it to heart. If worst comes to worst, bloom where you’re planted. AFROTC serves the same purpose of USAFA, and I acknowledge that I’m already half-way through undergrad as a first year (I am aware I’ll have to redo 4 years if accepted).

As to why I was rejected last-year, I didn’t have a nomination. I paused for too long to think about if I really wanted to serve in the military because I didn’t put too much thought into a decision like that. By the time I knew that was a big yes, I missed the nomination application deadlines. I still tried, aware of the likelihood of rejection, but was ready to embrace it.

Right now, I’m living my backup plan in Chicago and it’s doing pretty good. But if there’s a chance that I can live out 4 years at my dream school, I see no harm in trying. So I’m hoping to hear from anyone if you think I might get in. Thank you, as this is the second time I’ve ever posted anything in a forum.

Very Respectfully,

Angelo Weyer

Nice Job on the CFA. Your college GPA will show admissions that you can handle the college load as well. As always, there are many more factors that go into the final decision, so no one can give you an accurate answer. Keep up the good work and best of luck to you!

Not to be a buzzkill, but I recommend you maintain anonymity on this forum; it's open to the entire internet. You may want to consider removing your full name from your post.
Appreciate it, I didn’t acknowledge that, but I don’t think there’s an option for me to edit or even delete these posts...

It sounds like you are in the sweet spot. Your evaluator may have noted on his evaluation that you are a second time applicant. That weighs in your favor because USAFA looks at your motivation to serve. I know of a USAFA graduate who applied repeatedly, was accepted after completing his junior year at the University of Washington, and accepted an Appointment to USAFA - starting again as a freshman. If it's what you want, stay with it.
