What certificate do you receive for a congressional nomination?

Does it just upload in your portal? Or are you given something in the mail? Also, how long does it usually take to do one of these things after you have been notified?

Depends on the MOC. Maybe you receive a phone call only. Maybe a letter. Maybe an email. Maybe all or none of the above. All have happened over the years for us. There is no rule that an MOC has to do xxx. It’s up to them.

after the call and the portal update we received nice letter in mail accompanied by a certificate that was quite nice, it was in a framed folder

DD received a phone call, a letter and photo of her shaking hands with the MOC.

My DS got a letter notifying him of the nomination. It came about a week after showing up in his portal. His first name was wrong. His last name was misspelled, and it came from the MOC's staff member. And none of that mattered!

Once you receive your Nom everything is ceremonial and novelty. Normally a phone call from your congressman then an official letter printed on a congressional letter head, a nice certificate with congressional emblem, and a meeting with the congressman together with other candidates committed to reporting to service academies. A photo op and small going away tea time at his office and his staff. This was our experience. It was very nice and honorable. I guess our congressman takes his noms and candidates very personally because he’s a committee member of armed forces service committee in congress. His nom selection committee members are all veterans.

My DS received 2 nice letters on letterhead from our Senator and our Congressman. More importantly, the nominations showed up in his portals!

DD received nothing except a phone call from MOC for each nom. Anything else beyond that...she didn’t care.

My first DS received a formal letter from Congressman advising of his nomination. My second DS received email from the Congressman's coordinator of nominations advising of the nomination.

My DD received email from staff member of the Congressman advising of the nomination. Showed up on USNA portal a week later.

My DS received nom from both MOC and one Senator.

Our MOC sent a congratulations letter with the nomination, in the letter he said an email invite to a reception for all nominees and parents will follow. The invite for the reception said all nominees will be given a certificate, reception is in early March. Senator sent letter of congratulations for the nom.

Both nom's showed up in portal in early January. Letter from MOC arrived almost same day as portal update. Senator letter was about 10 days later, but DS was excited to see the second nom in portal before letter arrived.
