Hi, I’m a sophomore in high school and I want to join the USAFA to train to be a pilot. I’m not sure what courses I should take throughout the next two years. The courses I’ve taken so far are:
Math: Algebra 1 H, Geometry H, and currently Algebra 2 H
Science: Biology H and currently Chemistry H
English: English 1 H and currently 2 H
History: AP human geography and currently AP world history
2 years of Spanish, but I am also learning Russian
2 years art H
Im also attending a college prep high school so I’m not sure if this affects the PAR.
Thanks

Oh I also forgot to add for extracurricular activities I do Irish step dancing (I assist in teaching), I am apart of the naval sea
Just remember, you aren't going to USAFA to become a pilot. You are going to USAFA to become a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force. ;):)
Yes thanks! I just meant that after becoming an officer I wanted to take the route of becoming a pilot. Also I’m 5’3, would this affect me being able to be a pilot?

Nope, they adjusted the height requirements.. I believe they're now are around the 4'11-5'0. range. Definitely go look them up. Remember sitting height is more important. I had the same issue and question then I grew an inch the year they changed it. Cut my hair of the week before the change requirements hair too!

Also with pilot there'll be another medical test and that has a different set of perimeters than the dodmerb test for getting into USAFA. Any questions about medical I recommend posting under the Dodmerb tab, normally results in more clear, to the point and up to date answers.

I know exactly what you mean because I'd like to go pilot as well but I know that going to The Academy means that you are there to commission in the USAF as a second lieutenant. Your career is based on the needs of the Air Force. As long as you understand that, you're golden. Best of luck man!

P.S. If you are looking for an inside look at USAFA, try looking up "USAFA 1SE" on youtube. I believe I've watched every single one of them. You may find particular interest in Darius Jansen's. I'll link it below for you.

I personally highly recommend that you take BC Calculus anywhere before you graduate and take AP Chem DURING your senior year. This is due to the fact that I have heard from many USAFA grads and current cadets that Chemistry is a very difficult class that everyone must take in their first year, which AP Chem senior year will help prepare for. I recommend BC Calculus due to having a strong stem background will I'm sure be very helpful at the USAFA.

The best general advice is to take the most challenging schedule your high school offers and can do well in. This will normally involve multiple AP classes with a preference towards STEM (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Calculus, Statistics, Computer Science, etc.).

Don't forget extracurriculars. Finds something you really enjoy, do well in it, try to obtain some leadership role where you can make a difference.

Good Luck!

Yep, this!

The academy wants to see strong academics, leadership, and athletics. So, do well in the hardest classes your school offers, participate in things that get you leadership experience, and play in some sort of sporting events that show athletic ability (teamwork is good too).

Hey thanks for replying!
Would the being naval sea cadets and being a helping teacher at my Irish dance academy (I’ve also competed in the world championships multiple times), be good enough for leadership? I’m thinking of doing lacrosse next year but I don’t want to be overloaded with all the AP/ honors classes I’m taking.

So Pre-calc H, Physics (honors or AP) , then if you can AP ENlish and AP USH or at least Honors in English and SOcial Studies.
