What did you say? PITBULL performing tonight for the Mids?

Symbolically, this was such a great way to cap this academic year as we now move into finals and Commissioning Week. 14 months ago (feels like much longer) the Brigade was told to stay put at home and await further guidance as faculty were given a week to figure out how to finish the semester remotely. Followed by a tough way for the Class of 2020 to exit, then a bizarre Plebe Summer, almost no summer trainings with lots of online summer school, an unprecedentedly strange academic year rife with periods of ROM, online class from Bancroft, little liberty, so many restrictions on activities like ECAs and sports, and a lot of emotional drain on mids and I can imagine for faculty and staff as well. Now with >95% of the Academy fully vaccinated, things are looking almost exceedingly normal. The Class of ‘21 is almost ready to head out to the Fleet and the rest of the Brigade is excited for summer trainings and hopefully a normal 2021-2022 academic year. Already this weekend Mids have been pouring into downtown Annapolis to celebrate while (hopefully) not forgetting to study for finals. At the risk of prematurely celebrating, it sure looks like we made it.

@Kierkegaard great post and congrats on the approaching end of the year. Looking back on the effects of the pandemic on midshipmen and cadets, I salute your efforts and resilience. At the start of this, I and others commented "how can this be so tough." Reading the posts here and the stories online e.g., the crappy food, isolation in the room, fewer training and learning opportunities, and the physical and mental illness which probably would not have happened if not for the virus, I stand corrected and humbled by the ability of all academies to endure and move on to the next mission.

Best wishes to you and yours in the future.

YASSSS 💯🙌!! And congrats to ‘21. The feelings you posted, are shared by parents as well. So PROUD of the brigade. It was also tough to watch from the cheap seats. At least for me it was But yes, looks like y’all made it (except for the few the didnt...I know a couple DOR’s ☹️).

This year will be something in your back pockets, that you will pull from at some point in the future. And YOU all did it. So PROUD!!

@Skipper07 such a great post. My plebe (soon not a plebe) said today that there were civilians on the yard. He said it was the first day that felt like it had some normalcy and light. That counts for a lot considering the year you and all mids and staff and trainos and parents have had. I’m dating myself here but your words translated in my mind to this chorus.

@Heatherg21 I imagine you meant to ping @Kierkegaard but, I’ll take the early promotion to 2/C anyway.

I concur with Kiekergaard’s post. Unfortunately I couldn’t make the concert but I did hear that it was a ton of fun. Ditto on the return to normalcy comments.

Indoor dining and normal liberty radius are a go this weekend. We’re at over 95% fully vaccinated and two weeks post second dose. I, for one, can’t wait to sit down for brunch with some buddies Sunday morning (that sounds so unnatural nowadays!) Despite finals, I think I speak for all the mids on SAF when I say we can feel excitement in the air. Here’s to a mostly normal commissioning week!

Yes kind sir, you are correct. I meant to reference @Kierkegaard Congrats on that virtual promotion to 2/C

I have in my minds eye the entire brigade eating with their squads inside King Hall. A return to normal for some and a first for so many. Enjoy your brunch. Honestly what a treat.
Our plebe for not much longer will have his first overnight since IDay with his sponsors. Super excited!!!!
Again my apologies for mistaken identity.

DD actually enjoyed AJR more than Pitbull...and was shocked that I was familiar with their songs.

Old dad hipster. ;)
