What do ALO evaluators know about interviewees?

Do they have the ability to see the candidates complete file?

I believe so. When I went through mine for each academy they were able to continuously reference and ask questions about some of my accomplishments. I’m not sure if they are able to view the WHOLE file, but they can certainly view the important bits that matter in evaluating your character.

Even if the ALO has deep access into your file, don’t assume that they had time. or took the time, to review it. They’re very busy people too.

So use your interview to highlight the most important attributes and accomplishments you have, in detail but with brevity. Don’t assume that they know everything, or anything, unless they tell you so.

Our evaluator said he had a basic file - grades, scores, resume, but could not see letters of rec, writing samples or the "deeper" stuff. Son asked directly.

IMHO the main purpose of the ALO / Field Force / B&G interviews are to screen and filter applicants beyond the paper application. They want to get a sense for your personality, aptitude, and 'fit' for the SAs. Lots of applicants look good on paper and just don't have the personal characteristics to make a good leader. Or it may become clear that the candidate themselves isn't the one driving the SA interest etc.

So I'm not sure how much of the 'paperwork' side is really key to the interviewer - might be more likely to be looking for strong candidates who have less than perfect scores etc.

The ALO can't see anything more than the basic file that the candidate completed. We can't see letters of recommendation or anything else like that. We can see if you filled out the online resume, and things like that, test scores, GPA, class standing, etc., but it's all the things the candidate reported!!

We're pretty blind in this area; that's why most will ask the candidate for a resume prior to the interview.
