What do we really need?

Thanks!

Bible? That was another rec. Will they be allowed to keep it? Or will they be issued one?

Yeah. No problems with religious material. The chappel was handing out bibles at their first service (Friday IIRC).

So don't bother bringing one because he'll be "issued" one? Or it's okay to bring one if he wants to?

(Can you tell I'm stressing out as we're coming down to the wire as we actually pack?)

This really is your call. The copy they were handing out was a physically small copy of the New Testament. It certainly wouldn't hurt to have a larger copy to read.

what exactly will the $250 we bring be used for? boots?

You'll go to the C-Store within the first couple days. Money will be used to buy cleaning supplies, iron and board, and other misc. stuff you might need for Jacks.

They will give out bibles. I just got a digital pattern (ABU) NIV Bible and I think they will issue those as well.

Another question. Are basics allowed to have any kind of sunglasses?

Later,

Brian

Nope. But while we're on the subject of sunglasses, I suggest you check out usstandardissue. It's Oakley's military division and they sell glasses for about half price. The frame might not be as shiny as retail and it won't have Oakley on the nose piece, but the quality is top notch. A polarized pair runs between $80-100ish depending on the frame.

yeah i ended up gettin 3 bibles over BCT. one was just a small NT/psalms and all, but the other two were really nice smaller versions with some extra material in them. and honestly anything you will possibly need (that you're allowed to have) over BCT you'll get. basics lose all common sense as soon as they step on the bus, so they make the process pretty much idiot proof. believe me. we all acted like we had no brains last year. happens every year. so don't stress about it. if you absolutely positively need something cadre could possibly help. they're humans too. they were in your shoes two or three years ago.

Get a blister kit if you can at the C-Store. I got waterproof blister bandaids that were a life saver for me.
