Usually when I ask this question, I get some type of sarcastic response like, "Write speeding tickets", "Crack down on Joes," or some other non-serious answer. It's really annoying.

Can someone actually help provide some clarity on what an MP officer actually does? I get it. Enlisted guys probably have to run patrols. But I know next to nothing about the Officer side, and I can't find anyone willing to discuss what the responsibilities and duties actually are.

Right. I'm trying to get an idea of what an officer does in peacetime when they are in garrison. The discord memes just say guard duty and playing civilian cop

PL/XO jobs are similar across most branches. As a junior officer, you’re going to be in charge of the day to day management of your soldiers, coordinating training, managing maintenance, and maintaining property accountability.

So what that looks like for a MP officer seems to be helping manage those schedules and overseeing watch for guard duty/patrols when the unit is in cycle to support garrison functions like that and then rotating into field training specific to unit training (weapon quals, convoy operations, etc) for operations down range. MPs are unique in some regards that they have a specific function in garrison they have to train and perform and also have to train for deployment functions that can be more broad in scope. Most other branches only have to train for their deployment activities. All this is while supervising your soldiers, making sure they don’t do anything dumb and have the resources to do the job like any other junior officer.

If you aren’t assigned as a PL/XO in the company, staff looks like staff in other branches.

I will say that my friends who are MP officers have some crazy stories from the stuff they and their soldiers have had to deal with on calls. Definitely an interesting gig

Thank you for going into depth with your explanation Casey. Your answer helped give me some clarity.

You get sarcastic responses because your questions are those that are easily answered with a little research. You come across as someone who joined a forum and just want someone to answer your questions to save you the time of actually researching it. Sorry that you find the responses annoying - submit better questions and I'm sure the answers will start to get less annoying. ;)

That can be said of sooooo many questions from new members on here. Makes it very hard to find answers becuase there are so many threads asking the same question over and over again without any research first.

Well, just to be clear I didn't intend my initial response to be sarcastic, although it seems to have been taken that way. I merely wanted to give the OP a starting point he/she may not have thought of.

If you are asking what a Military Police Officer (enlisted) does it is far different from what Commissioned Officers in the Military Police Branch do.
Enlisted MP's are able to patrol, do K-9 duties, work basic investigations (plain clothes), and make arrests. The Officers, all said they basically scheduled, evaluated, supervised, and did admin duties. The Commissioned Officers wore uniforms all the time, and did not conduct preliminary investigations or make arrests as general duties. The Commissioned Officers (three) all said they were doing it to eventually to try and get into FLEP, Adjutant General, another Branch, or serve their 5 years then get out and try to go Federal Law Enforcement as Civilian Criminal Investigators.
Do yourself a favor and visit a military police unit (any branch) and talk to the enlisted guys and the officers supervising them and see if different branches are different. Almost if not every Branch of the military has a separate Criminal Investigative Division (OFSI, NCIS, Army CID) that do the Criminal Investigations, put together criminal cases, sign subpoenas, serve warrants, make arrests and carry firearms 24/7. These are the primary investigative agencies of the military and are staffed by Warrant Officers or GS Civilians.
