Today I received a letter from the Admissions Officer. The first paragraph states the following:

Congratulations! The Admissions Committee has recommended you for an appointment to the United States Military Academy (USMA). Accordingly, I have reserved a cadetship for you contingent upon medical qualification and continued excellent work in school. When these matters are resolved, you will be appointed a member of the USMA Class of 2013.

After that paragraph it invites me to an overnight stay at Westpoint to shadow a cadet from 9:00am to 12:30pm the following day.

Well, to me it seems like I've been accepted (so long as I'm cleared physically and keep grades up). Is this correct? All I have is a Presidential Nomination so far, is this the one being used? All I want to know is, if I clear physically does that mean I'm in?

If you clear medically you're in .. as long as you keep your grades up too :) (until end of 1st semester, probably)

CONGRATS!!!!! :thumb: well done :shake:

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You have received an LOA (letter of assurance). Basically, this is saying that if you are deemed medically qualified, you will receive an appointment. Remember though, this is contingent upon being medically qualified. Congrats...and Good Luck!:thumb:

Wow! This is so great! I really couldn't believe it when I first saw it.

Are you sure this is a LOA? It says its an Offer of Admissions. Are they the same thing? It was my understanding that LOA are sent if you don't have a nomination yet and the offers of admission are sent if you do.

I wish it would have been more specific than "continued excellent work in school". Does that mean maintain a 4.0 or its a no go?

Sorry for all the questions but this is pretty much my dream and I want to know EVERYTHING!

Congratulations! You have an LOA.

It sounds like you are not medically qualified by DoDMERB yet. As soon as you are you will get your appointment. This is why you got an LOA.

You don't have to maintain a 4.0 but keep your grades up - no failing.

Now schedule a visit!

Yeah, if you can get to the CVW in any possible way, you should go check out WP and see what it's really like for cadets.

CONGRATS again!!! :groupwave:
Good luck for DoDMERB/Medical qualification!
...you can mail MullenLE - larry.mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil - for infos :thumb:

Thanks!

My entire physical was clear except for one small part which my Liasons Officer said was harmless and common in teenage males so it would get waivered if it persisted. I repeated it about 3 days ago.

Failing won't be an issue as I've never failed a class or even come close. I just wanted to know if I have to keep up my current grades.

This is so exciting! I will be visiting the campus sometime in the beginning of next year for the overnight orientation.

Congrats on the LOA!!! You might want to consider discussing the medical issue w/ Larry Mullen (works w/ Dodmerb) and posts in the Dodmerb section below. He can give you any guidance necessary to clear that up. As soon as it's clear, you get the nice padded folder in the mail! This is HUGE!! Welcome to the USMA family!

Congrats, My son is in the class of 2012. Your first reading should be the book, 'Absolutely American'. It is a book about cadets going through 4 years of West Point.

My son started off in the Air Force as an airborne linguist (Farsi). So far he is doing frate at WP. The campus is probably the best campuses I have ever seen. It is absolutely gorgeous and make sure you take your parents with you. Where are you from?

I am in Columbus, GA (10 min away from Ft. Benning).

Information Update: I was medically cleared and received my official appointment (the letter and the certificate of appointment)!!! I haven't seen a post for Class of 2013 signups. Is it too early to start one or did I just miss it?

And thank you all for the congratulations! It really feels amazing knowing I'm in!

PS - Any other class of 2013 cadets that want to start making friends already, just send me a message here so we can start getting in touch before class starts. I want to have some friends already before the first day.

Start one!!
Congrats :shake:

I think I'll wait a little. I'll post one around the beginning of January. It's only December so not that many people have received appointments so if I post it now, it will get burried under all the new posts between now and March.

Hope you get into USNA! Maybe I'll see you at a football game! :)

Thanks!

Congratulations! Did you go on an overnight visit yet?

Thank you! :) Not yet, the letter I received said it has to be before December or after February (something like that). Now I have to wait until March or April. I'm going to set it up so I can visit during or right after my spring break.

Congratulations on receiving an appointment to USMA!
:usa:

You and your parents might be interested in looking at The West Point Parents Club of Georgia website: http://www.west-point.org/parent/wppc-georgia/.

This listserv for prospective USMA cadets and parents: http://www.west-point.org/parent/prospective-net/ is also very helpful and informative.

Thanks for sharing your good news with us on SAF!

Thanks for that website! I'll check it out and also give the link to my parents. Can you tell me a little more about the group?

Also I have a question for everyone else: How long do I have to accept my appointment?

The letter I received didn't say and would feel safer if I knew how long I had.

You have until May 1 to accept/decline your appointment.

Definitely subscribe to prospective-net. It is a list-serve forum that you can send questions to. it is moderated by parents of cadets and field force members. Official academy announcements - some that will be important for R-day - are pushed out to members through the forum.

Congratulations and good luck!

America's Finest -- I just sent you a PM about the Parents Club in GA.
