What does USNA look for in first-time college "transfer" applicants?

Since I didn't discover my interest in the military and USNA until late in high school, I'm planning on joining NROTC at Rice University and then applying to USNA during my freshman year as a first-time applicant. What does USNA look for in first-time college applicants? How heavily weighed are high school grades/extracurriculars against college grades and extracurricular activities? (especially if my HS resume follows that of a typical engineering applicant while my college resume will include more athletics, politics, and well-rounded activities; almost a complete 360)

In the USNA forum there is a reapplicant sticky. Highly recommmed you read that. Even though you will be a first time applicant a lot of that info will apply like taking a Plebe like schedule. Reach out to the BGO for your current school/area and introduce yourself with your plan. They can also help guide you.

Agree that the sticky on reapplying will answer a lot of your questions. It really helps in applying to USNA as a college student if you have taken or are taking, at a college level, most or all of the "plebe" courses (calc, chem, history, English). This demonstrates that you can succeed academically at USNA. See the sticky for details.
