30 years in the Active Duty Navy and even I'm surprised about the stupidity of this change. LCDR Cassano's e-mail specifically mentions that this policy is routing for signature. Which means that it isn't even in effect yet. So based on the current "In-Date" instruction, every Kings Pointer Class of 2013 going SSO was within their rights to wear that new warfare pin at graduation.

And then, whenever the new instruction gets signed, we're going to go back 2 years and have everyone surrender their pin. Thus effectively neutering the level of experience and expertise provided by Kings Point that the average SWO doesn't even come near to achieving to earn their pin.

This wins the prize as the dumbest thing I've ever seen the Navy do.

Navy Recon and Chick Magnet Dress Whites

First Liberty in Sept 09. DS and 2 friends of his were in NYC.

DS said to someone who asked him what one of his pins was for. He said Navy Recon. We had to laugh!

Sailors were saluting them b/c they were in dress whites! (& only newly minted Plebes!)

Then a grandma came out of a church and wanted my ds's number so her granddaughter could date him.

"Sorry mam, we are in training and can't make phone calls."
"Well when you are out of training and can use the phone, here's her number".

Girls were leaving their boyfriends to have photo shoots with them.

We moms and dads sighed, watching from a good distance behind them. It was a riot.

Another words, Dress Whites are chick magnets. And there are other benefits, but we'll let the new parents hear those stories from their ds.

Active Duty?

Wonder if active duty members of other branches that commissioned prior to 2011 are qualified to wear it

Dress Whites are chick magnets

After I started shipping out I found that 'folding money' had some magnetic properties too.. especially if it was a big wad of Benjamins. There's a reason we used to call it getting a 'pocket full of personality' when the captain gave out a draw..
