Hi ,

I am a USMA 2020 prospective candidate I was wondering what happens after I submit the CQ? I started my application the day it became available and I have also applied to SLE. I am wondering how long it will be until I receive my candidate kit? Does the process start July 1st?

For me (2019) the kit opened 1 July. I believe an email was sent to me saying that my "preapplication" was qualified and I could get started on my kit at that point. All of the kit pieces that you have to submit (or most of which) are then open for access.

Trust me, you'll be anxious for it to open. Be patient. Once it does open, you'll have plenty of material to handle. The first and easiest task to handle is the teacher recommendations (school official evaluations, SOEs). All you do is type in your teachers' name and email address, and they will recieve an email from USMA. Be sure to let the ones you pick know you are applying beforehand.

Good luck!

When did you get that email? Because I haven't gotten an email like that yet.

Also , have you been to Boy's state? I went to an interview last night and the guy there just filled out the legion info part and asked me basic questions like " Do you know where it's taking place?" He also said I will be receiving something in the mail from the Boys state HQ after he mails my application and I don't really know if I'm actually going or still a candidate. And one more thing , should schedule an overnight visit? I have been to WP twice for Cross Country camp and know the campus fairly well.

Lacroix01, I am appointed to the Class of 2019, if I wasn't clear. I recieved this email on 1 July 2014, the summer going into my senior year.

No, I didn't attend Boy's State, or even apply for it, so I can't tell you about that.

In regards to a visit, I'm almost positive only appointed or LOA recipient candidates can scheduele an overnight, but you can still do a day visit. I highly recommend an official visit.

Second Step Kits (SSK) usually open mid to end of July to individuals that meet a set of preliminary standards (not every candidate is given an SSK to complete). Also, sign up through your school counselor or go directly to the American Legion to sign up for Boys State. Varies from state to state. Attendance at BS earns points equivalent to Eagle Scout and sport captain on your Whole Candidate Score (this is an admissions candidate ranking system). Good luck!
