My DD Plan B train (AOG Scholarship attending MMI in Alabama this Fall) was full speed ahead and completely derailed and jumped back onto Plan A track tonight with the phone call from our Senator and an offer of direct appointment! I had stopped following the West Point forums for now as I focused on getting her set up for civil prep, and I had a close friend with whom I was on the ride with , supporting and learning together. We are so excited for DD to be able to go straight in after all, but I have NO clue what to expect now. Is there a thread that has good information that I can follow? Is there someone that would be willing to contact me and walk me through the details of what's to come and how little time we really have to do it? She is supposed to be leaving for Denmark for 3 weeks after graduation. Is that going to be an issue now?
Sorry for the 20 questions but I'm a detail oriented person and I am lost now without my Teragram!!!

First, to reply to your last question, it might be... R-day, or Reporting Day, is July 3rd so depending on when your DD graduation is and how much time she wants at home afterward, it could be an issue.
On her candidate portal there should very soon be a big checklist next to the already completed admissions checklist on the overview page. This will give you pretty much everything you guys will need. There is a lot of paperwork and things to attend to. It will get a little stressful but organization is key and you'll be alright. Also, pay close attention to the admissible packets on the same page. Most only have 2 packets uploaded on their portal, they take time to update so don't freak if DD doesn't have them on her portal yet... these give you lots of info such as packing list, reporting times and other misc. but important info.
I myself will be right alongside her on July 3rd! Congratulations to her and the rest of your family.

Her 2021 portal already closed because she had already moved on to civil prep and had started her 2022 application. Someone told me it should reopen.
She is out of country June 3 to June 24th. Time at home with family....lol...that won't be a big issue. She's chomping at the bit to go! [emoji3]
I'm thinking more like if their are specific doctor/dental/vision Appointments that need to be done as part of the process do I need to start making appointments NOW.

You have a goodly amount of paperwork...so watch that portal. If it doesn't open back in the next day or two, call again. You should definitely join West Point Moms if you're on facebook...they'll help you out with all kinds of support/guidance/answers.

She pushes 'accept,' you print out the paper work, buy the boots and low quarters, she fills in the forms and gets the dental X-rays and shots, she continues to work out like a champ, and you join the West Point Moms Facebook page where we will fill you with information on compression underwear and ziplock bags, and you buy the West Point Moms Survival Guide by Debbie Roszell and Lisa Joiner. (Ahem....see above).

And huge congratulations to your girl. #3 is still 'thinking' about what to do with this change in opportunity.
Thanks!
Btw what did you mean by "#3 is still 'thinking' about what to do with this change in opportunity?"

He accepted USAFA...after very thoughtful consideration because he already had an Army ROTC scholarship to VMI--and then he went to Italy for two weeks. Upon his return from Italy, he was greeted with the BFE from West Point. He is taking time to consider what he really wants to do with the rest of his life and how he really wants to serve the Nation. These are two fantastic but very different opportunities. I can advise but this has to be his choice alone.

My DS received his appointment this same time of year a few years ago. Lots to do in a short period of time, but definitely doable!
Congratulations!

Congrats! Your portal will open again soon and you'll see the 2 admissable packets. The 1st one has a file that tells you the appts you may need to make (doc appt for immunizations, dentist for panoramic ) and the specific boots and shoes that your DS needs. You should be able to schedule the doc appts during the month of May before your DS goes out of the country. The rest is paperwork that you guys can complete and send in fairly quickly. Join the FB West Point Class of 2021 parents page. Use the search button to look up the discussions on boots and shoes. What a crazy ride for your family! Welcome!!!

There are recent threads on SGLI (Servicemember's Group Life Insurance) in various SA forums too.

So very true!

I really admire your ability to let go and let your DS make his decisions. We are still struggling with trying to direct our DS. Last night he said something I have seen on the forum before. He said Mom, maybe my Plan B, is Gods Plan A. I just smiled and knew he was right.

The tasks are doable in the month she has before her trip. My son just returned from 2 weeks in Thailand and the time change is kicking his butt. It was 11 hours and that would be my only concern. How much is the change to Denmark?

Congratulations! My son is still over the moon 3 months after receiving his appointment! :)

It's 8 hours time change.

One of the things that takes a little time is the security check. Upload a copy of your DDs birth certificate and SS card as soon as your portal opens back up. Also, locate an army recruiting office nearby that can do the fingerprints electronically. This will help speed that part up.

Not sure how the e-QIP may or may not be impacted by the trip to Denmark. Be prepared to provide all details about trip - whos, wheres, etc.

I wonder if because she was in the Navy Delayed Entry program up until last week if that will make things go any faster?

My son emailed his RC pre appointment to ensure that the trip to Thailand would not cause an issue. He was assured it was fine. Son also has many foreign exchange student friends - he visited one in Thailand - and had a bunch of fun completing the equip form with all the addresses. One of the many reasons I have enjoyed stepping back while he steps up in the process. :bounce1:

It is their journey and we get to sit back and enjoy the ride! The dds and dss need to be in the driver seat...
