What is everyone hearing?

DS said Hell-o night was pretty funny and he does like his company. His former detailer stopped by to check on his former summer plebes and reminded them that the 3/2/1/c midshipmen in their company are not their friends, and do not forget that. Son thought that to be sound advice.

He spent the day cleaning his room, church, cleaning, phone calls, learning how to use his calculator, cleaning, and finding his classrooms. Oh, and he cleaned his room for inspection.

Not at all. She has said that every time we've talked. This is just the first time we talked about meatloaf. I thought it was funny.

She is NOT a picky eater, either. She has always eaten cafeteria food at school not mention whatever mom & dad put in front of her.

but then again...my mom & dad know how to cook. Love you Mom!

This article on Trident talks about King Hall menu items...nice to know as a mid:

^^^ I agree. Anyone who says there wasn't a food issue back then must not have talked to any current mids (ALL classes). It wasn't just plebes complaining as some always contended, it was a HUGE problem that was finally addressed.
True about the classes complaining. There are those who would argue, quite convincingly, I might add, that it was the requirement to eat evening meal by the upper class, not the quality or quantity of the food itself, that was the predominating cause for the food debacle. I personally talked to a LOT of mids. None had the issues reported in the media happen to them personally. However, they had all 'heard' about it. And we all know how rumors can get out of hand in Mother B.

I must admit, MRE's are pretty tasty...I enjoyed living on them for the months after Katrina. But I'm the weird one, for I know of many people who detest the suprises inside of those drab brown bags.

minestrone & chicken breast with salsa ... mmmmm :)

DS said meals are great now, if only because he doesn't have to "square" them. He has had no complaint about the amount or quality of the food. Today, he enjoyed sleeping until 0900, walking to church on his own and texting and talking to us yesterday while not standing at attention...ah, the simple pleasures! Today he plans to get his printer and try to figure out the "maddening" website. He still has a bit of the hack, which has Mom and Dad concerned since he's been coughing for a month now.

Weighing in on the food issue, my husband's mom fixed the same 5 meals every week, basic homecooking, generally dry and overcooked. (Love my mom-in-law, but she is pretty set in her ways!) When we were first married, DH had little tolerance for anything "different" and didn't like my cooking. Now, he thinks I'm a gourmet. This is just to say that most people get used to a certain style of eating and, no matter how wonderful different food might be, they usually don't like it at first. My son put it succintcly, "Even though the food here is good, it is nothing like the meals you fix for us."

DD hates King Hall food, much prefers MREs.

She happily signed her "2 for 7" (or probably 2 for 10) papers today!!!

Almost forgot, son had a goal to improve his run on PRT. His scores on most recent. 96 sit ups, 90 push ups and 6:04 on the run. (That's a 40 second improvement.) He was pleased with his progess but wants to do better. His next goal is to max sit ups and push ups. :thumb:

So your son ran MILE AND A HALF in 6 minutes and four seconds? thats like a four minute mile! I think you either misunderstood your son, or he should be competing in some serious track events

Noooo, sorry for being unclear...it was a 6:04 mile. Certainly no one will be calling him for placement on the Olympic track team, but we were happy with his improvement. I think some of it might be that he is acclimating to the heat and humidity, but I'm so glad he continues to set goals for improvement.

The PRT is pretty silly. With a 6 minute mile your kid is sitting pretty.
