DD's app has been "complete" since October 13th. Checked portal and now it is reading "incomplete" with the following message:

1) We have learned through the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB) that you have one or more tattoos, piercings, or brands.

So that we may continue processing your admission file, please send us a color photograph of all tattoos, brands, and non-removable piercing hardware. You must send the photographs via email to tattoos@usafa.edu. If you do not have any of these or only removable piercings, please send an email to tattoo@usafa.edu and tell us so. Make sure you include your Student ID and full name in any emails that you send. If you have any questions you should contact your admissions counselor at 1-800-443-9266.

Is this normal operating procedure for every candidate? Has this happened to anyone else on this forum? Or worse, have they entered someone else's medical exam results in her portal? If so, that is concerning. She was medically qualified by DoDMERB on September 25th. She also does not have any tattoos, brands or permanent piercings and never has. She did send an email, but it makes us wonder because this will delay a review of her record.

Very frustrated here. DD called the 800 number this morning and was basically told "the problem is not part of our department", there is no mix up with the DoDMERB exam, it is her exam and that the tattoo department will take care of it.
1) Why give a number to call if you have any questions and then say, "sorry, we have no answers", another department will take care of it.
2) DD filled out this form back in July stating she had no tattoos, brands or piercings.
3) DoDMERB review of her physical says she has one or more and must send a photo, so how can this be her exam they reviewed?

Her application is still incomplete, hands are tied while relying on another department to somehow, out of the ether, fix something that is so important that really didn't need fixing in the first place. I understand that she is only one of thousands and no one special, but when you do what they ask you to do and run into a wall, the frustration factor accelerates rapidly to a very high level. Time for that glass of wine...heck, make it a bottle, before I literally go :screwy:.

Rant over!

Well, for anyone interested, my DDs application has been changed back to complete. What a relief! The only thing we can figure out is that when she filled out the form asking about tattoos, brands and piercings, she marked "yes" because she has pierced ears. I did not personally see the form, so not sure how the question was asked, but my guess is the word "permanent" was on there somewhere. Well, I imagine USAFA wanted to make sure she did not have any gauges or anything else like that or worse sticking out of her ears.

Lesson learned: read in detail what the question is and clarify when necessary, especially if you have pierced ears and the ear rings can be removed. If they can be removed, state it so and save yourself a headache.

FalconsRock: thanks for the update and also for the advice to future applicants. Glad things got cleared up for your DD.
