USPS Replied first

OK minutes after the last post. The mailman arrived with a candidate number letter. :thumb:

please pardon my apparent parental anxiety. Wish i could be as cool as some are.

I really appreciate the great posts from all of you especially Zaphod and USNA69 and others too many to mention. Great info and when and if we all meet someday the first round is on me.:beer1: :beer1:

My advice would be to relax. You have a long arduous process ahead of you so do what the Eagles say..."take it eeeeeeeasay"

Relax, dude...I mean dad...some kids are still waiting to hear for THIS YEAR's classes...

Good job Xchefmike for being on the ball. You'll soon be receiving the DODMERB paperwork now that he's got a candidate number. You'd better hang around here awhile because when the Dodmerb stuff starts, you'll probably have some questions for the Doc. You're not in the full "waiting" mode yet. Just wait for the wait. Its coming!

Best of luck to you & your son! AND E-GADS! Look at the neck on that kid. GO NAVY BAAAABY!

USNA will only request DodMERB after the application process is more than 50% complete. For high school students, that is 5 of the 8 required application documents.

Everything one needs to become familiar with the Academy and complete the application is readily available on line. Until the interview, basically with individual candidates, the BGO's sole role is to answer specific questions, if any. Over reliance on the BGO may convey the mistaken impression to some BGOs that the candidate is not capable of following simple instructions. Also, many BGOs gauge candidate initiative somewhat by the method and manner in which they work through the application process. Just check in occassionally and only ask questions to which the answers are unavailable elsewhere or to confirm understanding of some of the more obtuse parts of the application process.

Also, allow your son to make all the contacts. Activity on your part may be construed as undue parental influence and raise an unnecessary and unintended red flag.

Good luck.

If your son ends up as a football recruit, contact with the BGO will be limited.

Nope not by a long shot! The waiting you have been reading about starts when you get a nomination and have complete applications - probably in Dec-January until you get a decision. Some for 2011 just got decisions and some are still waiting for a decision. There will be plenty more to do!

Who's cool? Some of us hide it better than others!:shake: I'm an impatient person so I can sympathize. As far as the waiting part...all I can say is hold on because it's most likely going to get worse. I had half as many gray hairs 18 months ago! Good luck to you!!!!
