So, DS was informed his cgpa was to low to compete for SFT. He is As250. He was advised to work on gpa and he would be reinstated in the fall. Apparently grade forgiveness does not apply to AFROTC and all grade go into cgpa. DS was unaware of this and thought he was fine as his program cgpa was a 3.0 with the repeat. Anyway, question is, what will his classification be in the fall? As250 again? Does he enroll for 200 classes again although he passed the fall portion already? I am confused and sad for my DS. He is confused and heartbroken. I want to try to help him understand what is next, somehow. I told him to speak to his commander also.
On another thread an option was posted about repeating AS200 year, is this what is meant? I was confused on that one also and that is why I am asking for clarification here. Thank you and forgive me for being a bit slow to understand all of this.

Hello,

I am an repeating AS250 (500)... My reason was slightly different as I had citizenship delays all the way up until the Enrollment Allocations went out. I was allowed to complete my AES100 and AES200 classes for both fall and spring, so this year I am only required to go to LLAB and PT.
Your DS should have the option to complete the spring portion of AES200 classes in spring next year (while completing the AES100 classes this semester) and skip the 200 fall semester AES (but still attending PT and LLAB). I feel for your DS as I know what it feels like, but it may be a blessing in disguise. Being a repeating 250 will help him be higher ranked in his flight next year thus have more of a chance to get an EA and his choice of career.

His best bet is to talk to the cadre and see what they recommend. This will show that he not only wants to stay in the program but is motivated to do well next year.

Good luck!

So, AS500?

Ok, that makes sense to me. His cadre said they would reinstate him next fall but, and I quote Pima here although not direct quote, it is up to HQ if allowed to become a 500. Does this mean they will submit the paperwork to HQ and he will find out by next fall if he was granted the priviledge of continuing on? Thank you your reaponse and good luck to you!

If I am reading your post correctly, your DS is not going to be boarded for SFT. That makes it different from what you are quoting. The HQ aspect is for those that were boarded and not selected. In his case his CoC has taken a different route to keep him in by saying disenroll now, and start fresh next fall. Thus, because he was not boarded the disenrollment issue is removed.

Thankyou Pima!

I knew I could count on you to give me the straight skinny. I was really worried about how my DS should handle going forth from here but it seems more clear to me now in that he must focus on his grades and his physical fitness until he returns in the fall. Thank you so much for your help!

Bojibean, I really hate this for your DS, I know how devastating it would be for my DS as well as his dad. I'm glad we have Pima on this site, she has helped me and my DS multiple times over the past few years with her knowledge. It does sound like that your DS's PMS has gotten his best interest in mind. As Pima pointed out, better to wait a year when your more competitive for an EA, than taking the chance now, especially during a year where EA's look to be down. Still crossing my fingers that my DS gets one and will pray for yours also. Tell him to kill the grades for the next two semester and work to crush the PFT in the fall and I think he will do fine. Good luck!

Thank you Flying Wildcat

He is coming to terms with his situation and yes, working on the GPA is number one and he is taking advantage of the extra time to continue working on his PPL. Thank you again for your words of encouragement and I agree whole heartedly about of gift of Pima and also her DH Bullet!
