I have seen this term on a few posts but do not know what it is. Thanks for your help.

West Point also has a scholarship program through the Association of Graduates.

There are some differences between academies but generally they all work the same way -
Candidates who are not offered appointments for whatever reason - (could be academics, low SAT's, little athletics) are selected by admissions to receive a scholarship from the Foundation or AOG to attend a prep program for one year.

The Foundation or AOG either selects the school or gives you a list of schools from which to choose. The candidate re-applies and if they are successful in the prep program then they are offered an appointment.

It is an excellent opportunity for many candidates. The admissions office basically holds your spot for the next class and it is yours "to lose".

The foundation prep programs are a great opportunity for an applicant to gain a year of academic improvement, maturity, and military college experience before entering the Academy.

I wish I had knowledge of the program beforehand....I am a senior in HS now and am trying to get a 4 year ROTC schoalrship...

I longed to go to a military academy :(

apply for it for next year....there is an option, go rotc for one year and then apply

There are also prep schools to help you get into a service academy. There are several that are at the junior college level and at least one (Greystone Prep in Kerrville, Texas) which is at a four year college. Greystone has a video on youtube and a pretty good website.
