What Mids Spend Money On

Of course...I would expect nothing less from a gentleman like yourself ( now if you'd like to place a small wager on this years game...we can catch up and spend your Cadet's and my MID's money faster than they can,)
Are you suggesting that even blind squirrels find acorns now and then? Lol. Perhaps a "small wager". Let's renew our discussion during the first week of December. Us Army folks will still have grins on our faces. (You got to admit, we had a lot of celebration in storage for years, and it takes a while to let it all out).

Sorry to interrupt the football wagers... Go Navy! Beat Army! ... but this thread brings up a question I hope to have..... NFCU or USAA? We have a NFCU right by our home in Orlando but in Annapolis I see USAA. Which is more convenient for the Mids? Which do commissioned or retirees prefer?

Most Mids end up with both. NFCU is what is on the yard and is most convenient. If they end up with their starter loan from USAA they have to establish an account. Plus they usually use them for their car insurance. I have both accounts still but pretty much use USAA for everything, as do most my friends.

It is right next to the mid store on the yard. I believe they have branches that you can walk into on all naval bases worldwide as well and that could be a plus if you need to talk to a live person.

Back to the original topic: My plebe spends money on his XBox Live card, pizza delivery, Kilwins, Subway, the Nimitz coffee bar, the Bancroft vending machines, wardroom snacks, his once-weekly Dahlgren burger, and small expenses when D&B travels. For a plebe, that's about the extent of where you're able to spend money. We keep money on his Yard Card for Dahlgren, the vending machines, the coffee bar, and small MidStore purchases, like razor blades, etc. And I gave him the log-in for my Papa Johns account online, for a weekly pizza delivered to Gate 1. So there is actually very little for which he must spend his own money. Parents, on the other hand, have countless other ways to spend their money: football tickets, travel to games and other events, USNA spirit wear and spirit gear, travel expenses for your Mid to come home at breaks, funding the Yard Card, NOLS summer training, all that anchor stuff that you wear and decorate your house with, etc., etc.

2020vision nailed it for a Plebe. Also food on the weekends at the mall and movie tickets. Maybe an Uber ride to and from. As they move along the costs go up. Cars obviously bring a price tag. But as they get more freedom their trips to other colleges to visit friends and love interests also increase. Weekend trips to ski, club outings if they are involved in any, football trips on the weekend, and things along those lines tend to also increase as they get to 2/C and 1/C year. Oh and wait until they ask for a spring trip with their friends!

I am sorry that I missed what Cerberi said. It must have been good though. He had 8 likes before he got kicked.
I will show my age though, the cadets and midshipman do not have to worry about the monthly phone bills like we did. I knew the time of month that the bill would show up at my parents home and made sure I didn't call for that week.

+1 NavyHoops, DS is a youngster and will be traveling with his buddies during spring break. He watched every penny (meaning he called home and asked for $ for incidentals) and saved up his pay so that he would have enough to buy his airfare and accommodations.
