What needs to be done after BFE arrives?

My DS received his BFE for the Naval Academy. He is waiting to hear from another academy and other schools before he makes his final decision on where he wants to go. Is there anything that we should be doing with the BFE papers while we wait to decide?

I would start filling things out now. Some of the items take some time (vaccinations, etc.) USAFA even recommended getting wisdom teeth pulled more than 6 weeks prior to I-day.
My DD received an appt from USNA and USAFA last year. She gave herself a deadline (end of March) to decide so that there would be time to give the appt to another candidate. She felt it was courteous since she didn't want someone to have to scramble with last minute paperwork.

Thank you! We are very excited. The BFE arrived about two weeks after the nomination posted on his portal.

I went ahead and turned in the papers for the Police Record check because I figured that may take some time to complete.

I didn't see anything in the BFE about vaccinations. Maybe that comes after you accept the appointment?

I think that's right. USAFA does everything online. Some paperwork didn't become active until after she accepted the appointment. I do remember that the USNA BFE was pretty thick (and had a very, VERY nice appointment certificate). Just like with the application process, I'd recommend staying ahead of the game as get as much done as possible.

USAFA83GradWife-

I agree. I am so paranoid about missing a deadline or something like that. I don't want us to fail to do something and mess up his offer of appointment after he has worked so hard to get to this point!

I believe the immunization document comes in your Permission to Report Package...which comes after you accept the offer of appointment. You will get it closer to I-Day. My son recieved offers of appointment from USNA and USAFA. He really wanted USNA so he returned the required documents ASAP.

Once you submit the document "accepting" the appointment, does USNA send some type of notice saying that they received it? Or is there some kind of updated checklist with all of the things you must submit(record check, birth certificate, appointment document, etc.)?

USNA doesn't send a notice of receipt (or at least didn't last year). Appointee can, of course, call Admissions a few weeks after submitting the acceptance to confirm (not that is not necessary). The Permit to Report packages started coming out around mid-April last year. Not sure if it will be the same this year or if they will be moving to more online but the last year's permit to report information can be reviewed at the link below:

Yes paperwork in current BFE states PTR will be arriving mid-April. Immunization check and TB test will come with PTR. Only thing that needs to be done now is police records check.
