Is all white underwear required for new cadets to bring before they are issued
their new ones?

You'll be issued white underwear during in-processing. Bring whatever you like; just know you won't be wearing it after the first day.

LBloom, you may be incorrect. What we are hearing from incoming 2017 is that they (men and women) are being asked to bring white underwear to inprocessing, sounds like they won't necessarily be issued on I day this year which is a change.

The preppies have not been told to bring anything except the clothes on their back. They have not been given a packing list.

I had a question about the $250 it says to bring in the appointee checklist. So we need to have $250 on hand in cash? Will we be able to keep our wallets during BCT?

Also, how does in-processing work? The instruction booklet has a list with stuff that you should "hand carry" and should not be left in luggage. My question is, aren't you hand carrying everything? Aren't we only supposed to be taking a backpack?

You should bring a back pack with your essentials (paperwork and whatever else you are told to bring). This will be carried in your left hand all day in addition to EVERYTHING else given to you that day. This is why they said to pack light.

We brought the back pack home after PW as he then had USAFA issued backpack and other travel items. Still sitting in his room

You will be able to keep your wallet during BCT. Keep a copy of your immunizations in your backpack as well as on your person until you get past the shot process to minimize the chance of having to receive extra (and redundant) shots.

In 2011 (ancient history), DS dropped his backpack off prior to entering Doolittle Hall for the start of in-processing. Inside, there were information booths set up for parents and appointees. After a quick good-bye, DS went up the steps and began his journey to 'the bus'. They did some paperwork upstairs, came out the back and crossed the class of '59 bridge, picked up their backpacks/luggage from the drop-off point, and lined up to get on 'the bus'. The bus drove them to the Core Values Ramp where they were quickly ushered off the bus and onto the footprints. From there they then spend the rest of the day getting issued clothing, turning in paperwork, getting a nice haircut, constantly being 'corrected', and shown their room assignment. They learn how their clothing is supposed to be stored/folded. Somewhere in there they also are given a few moments to eat.

Bottom line is keep your paperwork with you when you leave your backpack/luggage outside. Keep your paperwork separate from your backpack/luggage at all times. I'm not sure which documents you'll need upstairs at Doolittle Hall, but I know you won't want to be digging for security clearance/medical forms from out of your backpack later, while in line with 1000+ people. Best wishes. :thumb:

Does Cadet store accept major credit card? or only cash?
I saw youtube video one day, but I don't know how they check out.
Thanks,
Delta

Yes, they do accept credit cards.

Do they have printer or external monitor there?
Delta

Parents generally buy printers and monitors either locally at Best Buy, Walmart, Office Depot, etc. or bring them if they are driving in for either A-Day or Parent's weekend. Some parents order them online then fly in and pick them up at the local store to take up to USAFA. On Parent's weekend the local computer stores will have stacks of printers and monitors available as they know the drill.

DS really enjoys having a laser printer and 23 inch monitor in his room. However, it is best to wait for direction from your cadet as the details of printers/monitors can be squadron dependent. What is allowed in one may not be allowed in another.

Lastly, I do not know if they have them at the C-Store.

Thanks BlackBird!

Thanks for the info. It was helpful.
I understand about printers and monitor..
But cadets are allowed to have a docking station for laptop?
It will be very convenient to get connect printer, monitor, keyboard, etc..
Thanks in advance,
Delta.

They will be issued the dock, mouse and keyboard along with the tablet notebook just before A-Day. A printer with some extra ink or toner and a large monitor is what they lack.

Does the underwear have to be white? I bought black ones because white ones are more prone to stains and I thought black would be better in the long run.

Follow the directions in the appointee e-mail/BFE. If they say white, get white. There is no discussion. If they did not specify a color, you are okay.

Where exactly are we supposed to put the first letter of our last name and last four digits of our s.s. number? I remember reading it once but I can't find it.

You put that on your belongings, such as clothing and bags.
It's known as your "laundry tag".

I feel like I should know this, but I'm still a bit unclear. When people speak of "luggage" being dropped - the extensive paperwork will be on DS's person, and other than that it's underwear, tee shirts, toiletries, and optional cleats. These will be in the "left hand" bag that will be carried around all day, right? I'm not sure what other luggage there would be. Also - when do they lose their watch, phone, and civilian clothes? Does there need to be room in their left hand bag for those, or will suitable storage be provided? If they don't bring cleats, are they issued athletic shoes or are they playing in boots? Thanks!
