I am rising freshmen and I am going to have to chose between 3 sports I love equally. What would help me get into West Point more? Joining a national ranked varsity rifle team and being able to be on the varsity ski team or go out for freshmen basketball. I am currently attending summer training camps for both and I am running cross country.

Only depends on if you are looking to be recruited. Rifle and Ski teams don't recruit, Basketball does. If you think you have a good shot at being recruited for bball, it might be a good route. Cross country recruits too, though, so that could be another avenue to DI. If you are not expecting to be recruited for anything, the particular sport you pursue does not matter. Just dedicate yourself to it and try to get a leadership position.

Oh by the way- Army Rifle is a varsity sport at West Point- won a NCAA championship a couple of years ago...sent a cadet shooter to the last Olympic games. Coach Wigger certainly recruits...and recruits well! The good news for coach is that he only need 4 shooters to compete in NCAA rifle. He is certainly looking for that blue chip shooter......

Play the sport that you like the most. Also- be realistic- if you will not letter in B-ball do something else....lettering is critical- being a captain helps...but SATs/ACTs and GPA should be the priority. Extracurriculars (lettering) certainly are important also.

From a purely admissions viewpoint-
West Point values varsity level team contact sports and being captain.
Emphasis is on varsity and team captain.

That said -
- you should participate in the sport(s) that you enjoy the most
- do it for all 4 years of high school
- you should participate in the sport(s) that you enjoy the most
- determine where you have the potential to be team captain down the road
- you should participate in the sport(s) that you enjoy the most
