What to bring to R-Day?

While you are waiting, browse the dozens of threads that start popping up every year about this time.

The short answer: “what’s on the list.” Don’t go crazy with anything too much over that, as you’ll be loaded up like a pack mule all day with more and more issued stuff.

Bring what is on the list. It is difficult to fit it all into the one bag you are allowed to bring, even with the boots hanging on the outside.

Besides what was on the list, we stuffed in as many pairs of underwear as would fit. My son has about two weeks’ worth so he doesn’t need to do laundry too often. There are requirements about color, so make sure yours comply.

Also good black socks and boot socks are really helpful to bring because the standard issue ones are not as nice. My son likes the black socks from Feetures (high performance crew) and the coyote brown boot socks (6074) from Fox River. I mailed him a bunch more pairs of the black socks because he said they are the most useful ones to wear.

You will get a list. Bring what is on the list. NO WHEELIE SUITCASES. Get a medium duffel with a should strap.
PACK EVERYTHING IN ZIPLOCK BAGGIES--because there will be a moment when you are in a room getting yelled at--and you will be asked to move everything from your home bag/suitcase to your green Army duffel bag. The gallon or two gallon ziplocks enable you to do this task faster than anyone else...and it will be better for you.
Pack what is on the list. You will be given a lot of stuff and you will given the opportunity to purchase additional items you might need from the C-Store during summer training.

There is a long discussion on footwear each year as well. Go read up on last year's while you wait for the boot memo this spring.
