What VMI isn't

My DS went on the Army FTX last week and told me the MRE's were better than Crozet. That being said, every time I have eaten there it has been good. Maybe they try to do better when parents are there or maybe the suck factor of the Rat Line affects the tastebuds?

I suspect both- Cadets have always complained about the messhall chow- much of it deserved in my experience and my son is one of the loudest of howlers. But truthfully the couple of times I've eaten there since he matriculated, I've found the messhall food to at least be ok. One assumes that they put out the best for the parents though. On top of that - you have to consider that MRE's have improved quite a bit since they first came out!

Rats think MREs are good because it feels really hard core to be sitting in the woods in ACUs eating MREs (every Keydet has an innate need to feel totally BA), and because they get to chill out and talk while eating them. The hooah aspect of MREs will wear off soon enough.

Every VMI Alum should automatically be granted a minor in Culinary Arts. The food isn't actually that bad (it improved noticibly over the course of my last two years there), but you do learn to be... creative.

The best meals are always the Corps Thanksgiving Dinner, the Corps Christmas Dinner, and the Breakout Dinner. The mess hall folks can make a killer catered meal when they have the time and resources to prepare.
