What's in the uniform package?

Hey all,

Looking at the instructions to appointees booklet, I see that they budget $4175 for uniforms. That seems like quite a bit to me. Can anyone shed light onto what (and how many of what) the provided uniforms consist of?

Thanks

4 sets ABUs, 2 A-Jackets, PC gear, service dress, parade dress, fleece, PC gear jacket/pants, overcoat, raincoat ($300+), parka, hats, scarfs, socks. That's the stuff in your first year not including rental stuff (APECS, flight suit). Then I don't know if that figure includes it or not, but mess dress ($500-$700?) for your junior year. It seems high, but you'll probably get pretty close to it

Consider the fact that you show up with literally no clothes and they provide you with your entire wardrobe that is fitted, tailored, and customized. Then think about all the random items you might initially overlook like bathrobes, swim suits, belts, and gloves and it adds up fast.

Alright, thanks. Here's another random question, not worth making a whole new thread for though. Do we wear dog tags at the academy? Or are those issued after commissioning?

DD needed mess dress for 4c year as D&B plus the parade uniform of white pants and coat

I'd definitely look forward to the bathrobe...:p

Don't knock the robe, applejack. My kids STILL wear theirs.

And their "comforters" (quilts? bedspreads? whatever they call them) are still in good use here at my house, and their PE gear is still worn.

They both continue to use their fencing team AF luggage. Super good quality, perfect size.

Fencers mom
I have a DS that is interested in fencing at USAFA.
Any info you can share on team would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm not fencersmom but I have quite a few friends on the team. They all seem to really like it. If you're not recruited they have try outs at the beginning of the year and they usually end up taking quite a few walk-ons, including some who have never fenced before. The team travels a lot so he'll miss quite a bit of school if he travels, but overall I haven't talked to anyone who wasn't happy to be on the team.

Thank you so much. My DS has been a member of his fencing team for four years. Does both Sabre and Foil. Captain of his team his senior year. Interested in trying out. Again thanks.

Obviously I can't speak for the team, but knowing that I would think he has a very good chance of making try outs.
