What's next?

mind your social media posts.
There was a flyer in the Permit to Report package last year specifically requesting cleaning up your social media posts, and I expect the same for this year. Not so much about what upperclassmen could find out, but more for the fact that the appointees are about to join the academy and represent the institution and the Navy.

Keep plugging along in school. Enjoy all the year end Senior high school activities. Evaluate risky activities PRIOR to participating; bubble-wrap! Get documents ready for your Permit to Report packet; birth certificate, shot records, etc. and a new passport is very handy and takes some time to obtain.

I am so glad to have seen all the "Enjoy your Senior Year activities" etc posts.... My DS has worked at the same place for almost 2 years. [In fact, one of his supervisors wrote a very strong letter of recommendation for him!] Because he swims (and many meets/events fall on the weekends) he approached me to tell me he was thinking of quitting his job now. To be able to have more freedom and get in shape for Plebe Summer - - and enjoy his Senior year to the fullest. He said, "I won't if you don't want me to". He had done the math and crunched the numbers and realized there were less than 10 days he could even work between now and end of the school year (he knew he'd quit when Senior year was over). He earned that fun and freedom. I supported him 100%. Today, he asked me (he always asks!) if he could drive up to the mountains with his girlfriend - no hesitation. YES! Enjoy this gorgeous weather and her companionship (yes, he and she know about the 2% "rule"). I will miss him beyond belief - but know what a wonderful challenge/blessing/opportunity and chance to fulfill his dream the USNA is!

Happy2BaNavyMo...I hope you had the responsibility talk with your son in regard to the girlfriend now that he will have free time and trips to the mountain. I know that I was so concerned about #1 starting a family with his high school sweetheart prior to R-Day. (It worked out ok at our house but we definitely had a 'do not ruin your life now and do not ruin her life now' talk, which was understandably awkward for all involved.)

OMG! YOU KNOW IT! My son and I talk about almost EVERYTHING! I could give you examples but he'd die if he knew I was posting them. LOL! You bet we've had the same "responsibility talk". Luckily, he has surrounded himself with friends who are all pretty bright students and athletes (many D1 recruits) {who I know aren't perfect} but who do realize that one dumb decision can have consequences for life. He has classmates who've made such mistakes. But I appreciate the reminder. (Which brings me to the Gardisal vaccine conversation on another post. BOTH my daughters and my DS were vaccinated when it was age appropriate.) Missing our every day morning talk sessions (while he cooks himself breakfast) is going to be the hardest part of his Appointment - realizing he'll never be "home" again - it's okay. I will struggle, but I know the ultimate goal. Thanks.

Gardisil for your daughters and son. You are my type of mom! When they go to school you do miss them so much but after plebe summer you train them to call on at least one day of the weekend ('it is part of an adult relationship w ones parents') and to text or email or call any moment they need you... and it is amazing to hear what they think and learn and do. It is different but it is wonderful too

DS and I have the responsibility talk occasionally, too. He can't seem to get away from it. One Saturday, at a restaurant called the Tilted Kilt, while watching Navy play on the jumbo screen, the beautiful server in her short kilt asked DS about his plans. Upon learning he played football and had such good grades and literally would give a dog CPR, she said "a nerd and a jock, and loves animals. That's SO hot." DS blushed, and she added "Look, girls like me can wait. Go get your dream, then worry about girlsn and you will be much happier." DS looked at me like I planned it all. That server earned her nice trade for "tips!"

He now calls his "friends only" policy the "Tilted Kilt Doctrine." [emoji23]

Suggest he go full Navy on that insider reference and call it the "Tango Kilo."

I am just curious (more like nosey) whose idea is it to go there, DS or yours? :D

Definitely book something soon. DD doesn't have the appointment yet but we did book a place to stay for I Day and PPW just in case. Hotel told us if we need to cancel we won't be penalized. We felt it was better to be safe than sorry if she got the appointment and have to scramble to find a place to stay. Hope we don't have to cancel.

Madzmom, I did too! I'm known as the Travel Agent of the family so I book ahead! Hope we get good news soon!
