When AFROTC results come out

To all -- just curious -- there was a great deal of communication regarding the results of the first 2 Army ROTC scholarship boards on this forum, and there was a good bit of communication with the results from the first Air Force ROTC scholarship board in this thread from 18/19 Dec 2014: http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/index.php?threads/afrotc-board-1-results.40637/

. . . but I have not seen a similar posting of results from the 2nd Air Force ROTC scholarship board that appears to have come out on on 4 Feb (Congrats again Giovanni!). Did I miss it or is there another thread of forum with the results?

There really aren't a lot of AFROTC candidates/cadets impo compared to AROTC, hence why it probably has been quiet. Overall I believe I have read a long time ago that AROTC awards more than 2k scholarships, same rate as AFROTC @16-18%, however AFROTC awards under 1K scholarships.

Thank you! I believe that I am going to have to convert my type 7 to a 3 year type 2 because no school with in-state tuition in my state offer aerospace engineering, so it's going to be like a 1+2 scholarship then right, a little confused?

Also, I was wondering if just the AF does that or do all the ROTCs have like a 2+2 type of thing for the scholarships?

Others will know more than I about the ins and outs of the different ROTC program particulars, but you might consider pursuing either Mechanical Engineering or Physics or some other STEM degree that an "in-state" school offers so you can keep the 4-year Type 7 scholarship -- what you have been awarded is precious. Aerospace Engineering is a good degree, but it is fairly "specialized". You can still work in the aerospace field with a BS STEM degree and potentially specialize with your Masters Degree. In aerospace we need "Mech guys" to do structures, and "EE guys" to do the electrical design and testing, Computer Science guys to do the programming, etc.

My DS also got an email from Maxwell after the Dec . 2014 board stating his package would meet the 30 March board. His stats are 3.7 GPA and 1320 cr/math SAT. =He wants to major in engineering. Fingers crossed. Luck to All :)

yeah that's true Falcon, I was thinking mechanical engineering for a backup major, but I put aerospace for my scholarship app already, so if anything, I think I would have to ask them to change my major right? because I assumed my major played a big role in me getting offered a scholarship in the first place.

Yes, you need approval to change your major. It typically is not an issue to change within the Tech wheelhouse. Here is something to think about if you want to go rated. There have been years that certain engineering majors, unless they are the very top they will not be allowed to go rated due to AF needs. A few years back it was EEs than it was MEs that many had to go tech nonrated. Not the sword also cuts the either way if you want to go rated with the ultimate goal later down the pike of becoming a test pilot. One of the things they want for TPS is an engineering degree.

Engineering is very difficult, and jmpo, but I don't think many hs students realize the difficulty in obtaining this degree, especially their freshmen year. Major in something you are passionate about, not saying I disagree with switching it to degree offered IS, but make sure you also want to attend that school because not liking the school and the major, but doing it to save the money may result in a lower cgpa and in the end it may mean you will not be picked up for SFT. Your first three semesters are the GPAs they will use....mess up that first semester, is 2.5 than it will be hard to get to the avg cgpa of 3.1 for selection

Good luck. I really feel for all of the candidates using this new system. It appears that the March 30th board is for reboarded candidates only. What a horrible long wait! Additionally, it makes it twice as hard on families that need to place deposits. Some deposits are non refundable. Do you place a deposit at a school that is only viable with the scholarship?

My kids schools stressed the sooner they received the deposit the better their chances were for housing options and selecting orientation dates. IE the best dorms were 1st come 1st serve, and on top of that how many were in the room...later the deposit was sent in the higher the chance the room would be a triple instead of two. Orientation dates is their registration and those great class times can be gone by the last orientation.

This new version of reboarding is this years tweaking. It will be curious to see if they will return to the old system next year. They did this for SFT a few years ago....one year they had 6 Max's, the next year they had the same amount to cadets, but did only 5, the following year they were back at 6.

What little I can bring to this, I was offered a 4 year Type 7 AFROTC scholarship on Feb 4 for any major (mine is Nursing), I did decent on PFT ( little weak on run time) with 3.9 GPA and 1330 SAT (M+CR), I did not receive either the AROTC or NROTC scholarship on their previous boards yet.

yeah, I rather do aerospace engineering and convert it to a 3 year type 2 than try to switch the major. and on another note, I just got a DoDMERB letter in the mail for me to go through the process of getting an examination. Do I do it this year though if I plan to not use the scholarship (3 year) until sophomore year or do I still have to do it for my freshman year?

Yes, you do it now. The exam is valid for two years.

Theoretically you will contract Aug/Sept. 2016. The exam would be considered valid until Feb/March 2017.

You can't contract if you are not medically qualed.

OK -- AF ROTC results from the 16 March 2015 board should be out this week -- supposedly NLT Friday 27 March. Be sure to keep us apprised if you are awarded a scholarship.

The AF ROTC "Reboard" convenes 30 March

My daughter had her interview with a Major on Jan. 8. Because Boards were 2/11/19 -2/15/19, when will those applicants be alerted to scholarship status? Is there a set date that emails will go out?

I would think with the next board date being 3/4 it should be before that. It says announcements for your DD board dates are 2/15 though 3/1. My daughter just completed her interview with the Major this week and she will be in the 3/4 board date. Wishing your girl the best of luck!

Then again this may vary by state.

You can check https://wings.holmcenter.com/ for status updates (same website your daughter used to submit her application).

The application status on that page will change once results are posted. The official results date is NLT 01 March.

So for some strategic thinking....
Given that there are only 4 duty days left until 01 March, I would anticipate that if results are not posted by COB today, that they will not come out until next Friday (01 March). There is very little point for HQ AFROTC personnel to rush to post results prior to 01 March after today, as they would only arrive a couple of days early. They may as well just wait and release next Friday.

I am not conveying at all that I have any insider knowledge on this-- just a familiarity of AF tempo and deadlines.

Keep your chins up, folks, and stay excited. Perhaps this will be a big award today, which is why they have not posted results yet. Still two more boards to go, and a fourth bite at the apple via ICSP next fall for those that don't make the cut this time.
