When Bubble Wrap is Not Enough...

I am curious to know what some of you are doing with your sons and daughters as the last week is fast approaching.

Making her clean her room!!!--get rid of the old computers she thought she'd salvage, bag clothes to go to the Mission, pack clothes she will need in the future, return stuff to various friends that somehow ended up at our house.

Oh yeah, one more Astros game (yeah, we know they stink this year), one more cookout with her friends, one more Sunday at church . . .

Ok, I'm gonna cry now.:frown:

Ha! Our son is doing a major cleaning job in his room, too!
In a somewhat controversial decision, our youngest son (and last kid at home) is moving into his brother's highly desirable, large corner bedroom after big brother heads off to Plebe Summer. Big brother is actually OK with it because he knows that even the smaller bedroom will seem like the Taj Mahal compared to his room in Bancroft Hall! Plus, we said we'd run cable in there and get him a TV so he can live in luxury when he's home on leave! :thumb:

Last Sunday was our last day to go to church with the whole family before son heads to Annapolis. We sang "On Eagle's Wings", and yes, I got embarrassingly teary eyed. Read the words of that hymn and I dare you not to cry, too!

I'm going to the mountains (poconos, I live in PA) tomorrow night with my family and driving stright to USMA from there on Sunday afternoon, since the drive is slightly shorter and avoids more trafficy areas.

update on DS friend---hand doing wonderfully well!!!-----i agree with all of you these lasts are killing me. DS is a lodge officer in the Order of the Arrow. tonight was the first night of summer camp at Camp Raven Knob in NC. DS was one of the chiefs for the tap out ceremony-- we just returned home. At the end of the ceremony DS walks out of the arena and off into the dark away from camp. hit me pretty hard -the symbolism of the fact he is probably not going to return to camp where he has spent the last 5 years -as he walked out of the spotlight and into the dark at the waters edge---yep you guessed it --tears.

Rope burns on hand while goofing around rope climbing at a graduation party. I hope they heal by July 1st.

You are living our life as it was in 2008. Our younger son got the corner room after a major clean out. My husband is in the choir at our church. We sang "On Eagle's Wings". We also sang "Fly Like a Bird" My husband cried while he sang it. We both cry everytime we hear it.
Hold on, the time will fly by faster than you think. It is hard to believe that our mid is now a 2/C. He will be leaving this week for a training block then on to Protramid.
Good luck to all Plebes-to-be and their families.

It makes me really feel good to read the posts and realize we are not alone. We leave tomorrow to head out East. DS got a bad sunburn while out fishing yesterday. This is the "last" day at home. We spent a half hour watching You Tube videos of the plebes lining up for noon formation. DS's eyes were sparkling! He took our dog to the vet to be boarded. I almost cried watching him say goodbye to our 10 pound Maltese who wears clothes. She looked at him knowing that something was up. I also tortured myself by playing the Navy Hymn over and over on the piano......I think I will actually be relieved to get on the road tomorrow.

Son drove up to Dalls to go to Six Flags of Texas with buddies. Yes, I'm completely freaking out. Will return on Sunday.

Monday is "Man Day". His friends are waking him up at 0500 and treating him to some 'good fun'. No girls allowed.

I'm looking forward to getting on the plane with him on Tuesday.
